Summary
Will provide specialized instruction to preschool students who are identified with a disability of Autism and
multiple disabilities in the preschool classroom.
Education/Qualifications
Valid 112 or 113 Connecticut Certification
A minimum of field work experience at the college level
Responsibilities/Expectations
- Autism Certification, degree or extensive formal coursework in autism and/or students with significant cognitive and/or behavioral challenges
- Implement, model, monitor, and adjust a variety of instructional and social/emotional strategies
- across all settings – restrictive settings, regular classroom settings, and non-instructional settings, in cooperation with general education classroom staff
- Experience conducting Functional Behavioral Analysis and writing behavioral support plans, analyzing behavioral data
- Ability to initiate productive communication to address student concerns with administration, team members, and parents.
- Develop a daily/weekly schedule of instructional and non-instructional activities for each paraeducator that supports students on your caseload always with the intent to build students’ independence.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Planning and Placement Team process and legal and related compliance
- Conduct appropriate evaluations and assist other teams in understanding the special education eligibility process for students with or suspected of having a disability, including the use of state guidelines.
- Demonstrate teacher-leadership qualities to bring initiative and innovation to the special education department in the above areas.
