Daily Hours: 8.5 (8 Paid)

Civil Service Title: Print Shop Technician (Non-Competitive)
Minimum Requirements
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus EITHER:
Desired Qualifications
5 years experience in a professional digital print environment, including hands-on experience with high-volume digital printers (Canon preferably);
Experience managing work flow;
Ability to perform routine maintenance and operator-level repairs to minimize downtime;
A strong grasp of color theory and calibration and an eye for detail;
Mastery of Raster Image Processors (RIP) like Fiery;
Ability to use computers and related software including experience with PaperCut job ticketing;
Experience with other equipment commonly used in professional printing including but not limited to bindery, cutting, laminating and large format printing;
Inventory management and production scheduling experience;
Strong communication skills;
Ability to work with people at all organizational levels;
Demonstrated ability to train, direct and motivate people;
Ability to stand for long periods of time;
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Position Summary/Responsibilities
The Lead Print Shop Technician is the technical expert and production lead for the district Print Shop, responsible for overseeing high-volume print operations and ensuring all jobs are completed accurately, on time and with minimal waste. This role coordinates daily workflow, manages production schedules, and serves as the primary point of contact for troubleshooting complex file or equipment issues. In addition to hands-on operation, the Lead Print Shop Technician mentors other printers and maintains rigorous quality control standards. Responsibilities include:
Analyzing the daily job ticket queue and organizing production runs to maximize efficiency and meet strict deadlines;
Identifying and resolving mechanical issues and serve as the primary point of contact for external service technicians when advanced repairs are needed;
Monitoring levels of consumables and paper stock and reordering as needed;
Serving as the lead on all equipment providing training and guidance to other staff members as needed;
Providing input on staff performance and performing special assignments;
On call for returning to the facility and/or coordinating occasional staff overtime to complete essential rush jobs;
Other duties as assigned.

- Two (2) years of paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience in the printing trade, which must have included all of the following, process photography, layout, platemaking and bindery operations, and routine maintenance and repair of related equipment; OR,
- Successful completion of sixty (60) college-level semester credit hours including eighteen (18) semester credit hours* in in graphic arts, printing, or a closely related field, plus one (1) year of experience as defined in (A); OR,
- An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.
- applicants qualifying under option (B) must include a student or official transcript with their application.
