Part-Time Janitor –
Pay: $17–$18/hour
Schedule: 20–25 hours per week, Monday–Friday
Overview
We’re seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Part-Time Janitor to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment at our shelter. This role supports daily operations and contributes to the health and safety of the individuals we serve.
The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, is dependable, and is comfortable working independently.
Duties
- Perform thorough cleaning of floors, restrooms, offices, hallways, and common areas using appropriate tools and supplies
- Clean and sanitize bathrooms and shower areas regularly
- Conduct routine custodial tasks including dusting, trash removal, window cleaning, and surface sanitation
- Mop, sweep, and vacuum all designated areas to maintain cleanliness standards
- Operate floor care equipment (buffers, polishers) to maintain floors as needed
- Remove trash and recycling from all areas
- Restock cleaning and hygiene supplies (toilet paper, paper towels, soap, etc.)
- Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and ensure proper storage and safe use of chemicals
- Follow all health, safety, and infection control protocols
- Assist with light maintenance tasks or report larger issues to management
- Support additional cleaning needs for inspections, guest transitions, or special projects
Qualifications
- Prior janitorial or custodial experience required
- Ability to work independently and follow directions
- Strong attention to detail and time management
- Reliable and punctual
- High school diploma or GED
- Comfortable working in a shelter environment serving diverse populations
Experience
- Experience with general facility cleaning or maintenance tasks
- Knowledge of proper use of cleaning chemicals and equipment
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining consistent standards
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 40 pounds
- Ability to perform repetitive cleaning tasks
- Ability to safely use cleaning chemicals
