What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Events position at Greater Topeka Partnership?
The Greater Topeka Partnership’s Director of Events will be an integral member of the Partnership team! This important position is responsible for handling corporate events for the Greater Topeka Partnership through leadership, great organizational, and creative problem-solving skills.
Major Duties:
- Ensures that events progress seamlessly by following established procedures, collaborating with other employees and ensuring accuracy.
- Identifies operational challenges associated with his/her group and determines how to best work with the customer and proper staff to solve these challenges or develop alternative solutions.
- Uses his/her judgment to integrate current trends in event management and event design.
- Solicits feedback from the business partners to identify areas for improvement to enhance the customer experience.
- Responds to and handles guest problems and complaints.
- Conducts formal pre- and post-event meetings as required to review/communicate group needs and feedback.
- Oversees the Events Manager, helping to strengthen their skills and knowledge of events within the GTP organization.
- Helps develop and implement new events that follow the mission of the GTP organization.
A Strong Candidate will possess:
- High School Diploma or GED is required; some postsecondary education or training is preferred.
- At least two (2) years of event planning experience is required.
- Strong computer and word processing skills, in particular Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong customer service skills with a “how can I please the customer” attitude.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally through both verbal and written skills.
- Ability to organize, multi-task, plan and set priorities with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work independently and in team settings.
- Ability to exercise good judgment with a strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information and situations.
- Passion for Topeka attractions and knowledge of community events.

Pay: From $60,000.00 per year
