During snow & ice operations employees are split into an A and B shift and will receive 8-hours of work or more depending on the length of the event. Hours may include overtime or various shifts depending on emergency situations and will include working nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbents must have immediate access to a phone and be able to report to work within one-hour of being called.Some examples of work for this position are listed below but not limited to the following:Function: Road Surface/Roadway Maintenance* Perform all activities required for roadside maintenance* Perform all roadway surface maintenance activities* Service and make minor repairs to operating equipment* Provide traffic control* Perform basic construction monitoring duties and basic inspection activities* Other duties as requiredFunction: Snow and Ice* Maintains roadways for snow and ice control* Prepares and inspects winter equipment* Performs preseason snow route inspection and performs post storm cleanup* Performs winter stockpile setup and transfer of anti-icing and de-icing chemicals* Performs all work related to installing, repairing, maintaining, and removing snow fences; replacing mailboxes* Maintain documentation on snow and ice data for accurate reporting of inventory and resource management* Performs traffic control set-ups and/or provides notification to dispatch of disabled vehicles**Minimum Qualifications:**Must possess a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with no Airbrake Restriction or equivalent from another state and obtain a valid Class A CDL with no Airbrake Restriction and Tanker Endorsement within 6 months of initial placement into the position and maintain it as a condition of employment. (May be required to obtain a Tanker Endorsement sooner than 6 months).The incumbent in this position will be subject to drug and alcohol testing. Individuals not currently in the random testing pool must pass a preplacement drug test for evidence of use of marijuana, cocaine, opiates, phencyclidine (PCP), amphetamines (MDMA, MDA and MDEA) and acetyl morphine (6-AM).The incumbent must also be registered in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's Commercial Driver's License Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.**Exam Part 1:** The level of experience to perform this job at the TG level can be achieved with: **Experience:** One (1) year of experience performing activities in snow and ice, soils, road surface maintenance, roadside maintenance, bridge maintenance, signs, or related activities (roadway maintenance, driving commercial vehicles, commercial landscaping, operating heavy equipment, or farm experience).**OR** **Education Substitution:** Successful completion of a Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance Program (of at least 60 semester credits; or 90 quarter credits) will substitute for one year of experience.(In order for education coursework to be considered in lieu of work experience you must submit a copy of your transcripts).**AND** Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak, and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.**Exam Part 2:** Candidates that are made a contingent job offer will be invited to take a computerized Math and Reading Assessment Test. The required passing score for the Math portion is a level 3 or higher and the Reading portion is a level 4 or higher. (Acceptance of the offer is contingent on passing a math and reading assessment test.) If you've previously taken and passed the math and reading assessments, you may be exempt from retesting.
