What are the responsibilities and job description for the TEACHER, BUILDING CONSTRUCTION position at Greater Southern Tier BOCES?
Full-time position (1.0 FTE)
- 7 hours per day, 10 months per year, school calendar
- Instruct secondary students in the area of Building Construction
- Monitor student progress
- Maintain discipline in the classroom and work sites
- Carry out all other duties as assigned by the Principal & Assistant Principal
Job Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS: Valid NYS Teaching Certification;
Extensive experience in Building Trades is required
- Minimum 5–10 years of verified, full-time experience in construction trades
- Demonstrated experience in: Residential home building, Carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, roofing, and drywall
- Blueprint reading and construction processes
- Experience as a crew leader, foreman, or supervisor preferred
- Strong knowledge of: OSHA safety standards, Local and National building codes
- Construction math and measurement
- Use of hand and power tools
- Ability to: Demonstrate proper trade techniques, interpret blueprints and building plans
- Prior teaching, training, or mentoring experience in career and technical education (CTE), apprenticeship programs, or workforce development
- Possession of or eligibility for New York State CTE Teaching Certification in Construction/Building Trades (or willingness to obtain)
- Industry-recognized certifications such as: OSHA 10/30 (Construction), NCCER Certification or First Aid/CPR/AED Certification
- Experience integrating academic skills (math, literacy, science) into hands-on technical instruction
- Familiarity with Career and Technical Education standards and work-based learning requirements in NYS
