Driver – Props & Event Equipment Transport
Position Summary
The Driver is responsible for safely transporting props, event materials, equipment, decorations, and supplies between storage locations, event sites, schools, community venues, and YMCA facilities. This position ensures the timely delivery, loading, unloading, and safe handling of materials while maintaining vehicle safety and professionalism. The driver serves as a representative of the YMCA and contributes to the successful setup and operation of programs and special events.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
- Operate a rented U-Haul truck or similar vehicle in a safe and responsible manner while complying with all traffic laws and YMCA policies.
- Transport props, event equipment, supplies, signage, decorations, furniture, and program materials to and from designated locations.
- Load, secure, transport, and unload equipment to prevent damage or loss during transit.
- Assist with event setup and breakdown, including moving and arranging materials as directed.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report any maintenance, safety, or operational concerns immediately.
- Verify all equipment and supplies are accounted for before departure and upon arrival at each location.
- Maintain accurate transportation logs, mileage records, fuel receipts, and vehicle inspection reports.
- Ensure the vehicle is kept clean and free of debris after each use.
- Coordinate with program staff, event coordinators, and site personnel regarding transportation schedules and delivery needs.
- Follow all safety procedures when lifting, moving, and transporting equipment.
- Exercise care when operating vehicles in parking lots, loading areas, schools, community facilities, and event venues.
- Communicate delays, route changes, accidents, or emergencies promptly to the designated supervisor.
- Represent the YMCA in a professional manner through positive attitude, appearance, and customer service.
- Work cooperatively with YMCA staff, volunteers, vendors, and facility personnel.
- Attend staff meetings, trainings, and event planning sessions as requested.
Qualifications
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to operate a U-Haul box truck or similar commercial vehicle safely.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly; heavier items may require team lifting.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage transportation schedules.
- Dependable, punctual, and flexible with changing event schedules.
- Previous experience driving moving trucks, delivery vehicles, or transporting equipment preferred.
Education and/or Experience
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Experience in transportation, logistics, event support, facilities, or related field preferred.
Certifications / Training
- Valid driver's license required.
- Completion of YMCA-required trainings and safety orientations.
- CPR/First Aid Certification
- Employees are responsible for maintaining all required certifications and renewing them in accordance with certifying organization requirements.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of equipment and materials.
- Ability to load and unload trucks and work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb in and out of vehicles throughout the workday.
