We’re Seeking: Director of Development & Events

Location: Phoenix-Hybrid

Organization: Greater Phoenix Chamber

Schedule: Full-Time

Salary: $80-85K


Position Summary

The Director of Development & Events is responsible for managing sponsorship relations through benefit fulfillment. This position also assists in the recruitment, commitment, and retention of sponsors for the events and programs of the Chamber, in collaboration with the Vice President of Corporate Development & Strategic Investments. This position oversees the signature events and professional development programming of the Chamber, with primary planning responsibilities for the largest events, and supervisory oversight over smaller events and programs.

This position works with stakeholders including national, regional and local speakers, business executives, and community partners. This position oversees event marketing content and requests in collaboration with the event coordinators.

This role supervises three direct reports: Event Manager, Program Coordinator, and Events and Development Coordinator.

Position Primary Responsibilities and Objectives

  • Responsible for the recruitment, cultivation, packaging/creation, investment, fulfillment, and retention of community and corporate sponsors (in partnership with Vice President of Corporate Development)
  • Identify new sponsor prospects and appropriate opportunities for engagement within the Chamber’s signature events and programs
  • Responsible for creating benefit packages and collaborating with the marketing department on the promotion of Chamber investments
  • Supports the Vice President of Corporate Development & Strategic Investments in oversight of Chamber events, with primary planning responsibilities for the largest Chamber events.
  • Oversees Development & Events Manager, Program Coordinator, and Development Coordinator and ensures that event registration and sponsors benefit communication in relation to events are in line with the Chamber’s goals and objectives.
  • Responsible for all logistical needs of events and ensures events stay within budget
  • Promote Chamber programs and events through active solicitation of attendee participation and community partnerships as appropriate
  • Works collaboratively with other Chamber departments to help accomplish our organizational mission.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
  • Responsible for creating benefit packages and collaborating with the marketing department on the promotion of Chamber investments
  • Will serve as the lead event contact for the events of the Greater Phoenix Chamber Foundation
  • Will serve as the lead event contact for the events of the Arizona Chamber Executives


Minimum Work Experience and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience
  • 4 years of experience in event/program management preferred
  • 2 years in fund development/sponsor solicitation experience preferred
  • Previous supervisory experience strongly preferred


Additional Qualifications

  • Must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, strong negotiation strategies and the ability to establish professional relationships.
  • Individual needs to be able to manage a number of different events at one time; knowledge of Windows, Word and database management software; good organizational skills and ability to manage large events or meetings.
  • Knowledge of public policy, current affairs, and business trends is preferred.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to sustain and work independently and move work forward with minimal supervision.
  • Must possess analytical ability to solve problems, anticipate challenges and identify opportunities and solutions.
  • Detail-oriented with ability to stay organized while handling multiple tasks and projects.
  • Highly motivated to learn, grow professionally and work in a team environment.
  • Proficient in all MS Office products.
  • Must maintain a neat and professional appearance
  • Must be able to pass a background check

Salary : $80,000 - $85,000
