Position Summary

Greater Peace Community Development Corporation (GPCDC) is seeking a highly organized, trustworthy, and detail-oriented Part-Time Bookkeeper to oversee the day-to-day financial operations of our nonprofit organization and Child Development Center. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional accounting skills, maintain strict confidentiality, and demonstrate the highest level of integrity while ensuring accurate financial records and compliance with nonprofit accounting standards.


The bookkeeper will work closely with the executive director, board president, and board treasurer to ensure sound financial management and timely reporting.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


Financial Management

  • Prepare and make all weekly bank deposits.
  • Process and pay organizational bills and vendor invoices in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate financial records using QuickBooks.
  • Record and classify all financial transactions.
  • Reconcile all organizational bank accounts and credit card statements monthly.
  • Monitor all organizational financial accounts for accuracy and unusual activity.
  • Maintain general ledger accounts.
  • Assist with monthly and year-end financial closings to include 990.
  • Maintain organized electronic and paper financial files.


Budget & Reporting

  • Assist the board treasurer in preparing monthly financial reports for the board of directors.
  • Generate profit and loss statements, balance sheets, budget reports, and cash flow reports.
  • Assist the executive director with budget preparation.
  • Track organizational expenses against approved budgets.
  • Prepare financial reports required for grant reporting.


Child Development Center Financial Support

  • Maintain financial spreadsheets for the Child Development Center.
  • Monitor tuition deposits and financial records.
  • This includes monitoring weekly tuition payments.
  • Track program revenues and expenses.
  • Maintain CACFP financial documentation as assigned.
  • Assist with state and grant financial reporting requirements.


Accounts Payable & Receivable

  • Process vendor payments.
  • Track outstanding invoices.
  • Maintain vendor records.
  • Assist with collections when necessary.
  • Verify invoices for accuracy before payment.


Compliance & Audit Support

  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards.
  • Prepare documentation for annual audits.
  • Assist with grant monitoring and financial reviews.
  • Maintain proper internal financial controls.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational financial policies.


Administrative Responsibilities

  • Review employee reimbursement and expense reports for accuracy.
  • Maintain confidential personnel-related financial information.
  • Communicate regularly with the executive director regarding financial status.
  • Work collaboratively with the board treasurer and executive director on financial matters.
  • Attend board meetings when requested to present financial reports.
  • Assist with special financial projects as assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a closely related field required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional bookkeeping or accounting experience (nonprofit experience preferred).
  • Minimum of 2 years of QuickBooks experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, spreadsheets, and financial reporting.
  • Experience preparing financial statements.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Experience reconciling multiple bank accounts.
  • Excellent mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain complete confidentiality.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a nonprofit organization.
  • Experience with grant accounting.
  • Experience with a child development center or childcare financial operations.
  • Knowledge of CACFP, state grant reporting, and nonprofit compliance requirements.
