We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Insurance Verification Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for verifying patient insurance coverage. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of verifying insurance on websites and by calling the healthplans, and experience in a medical office environment. Your expertise will play a crucial role in facilitating smooth operations and enhancing patient care.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough insurance verification for patients prior to their appointments.
- Review and interpret insurance policies/verifications to determine coverage eligibility.
- Communicate effectively with insurance companies, healthcare providers, and patients regarding verification status.
- Maintain accurate records of insurance verifications and updates in the medical records system.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations while handling sensitive patient information.
- Collaborate with medical coding staff to ensure proper coding of diagnoses (ICD-10 and ICD-9).
- Provide support to the medical office team as needed, contributing to overall office efficiency.
- Verify hearing aid benefits.
- Verify surgery benefits.
- Run and oversee patient statement mailings.
- Other office duties assigned by the billing manager.
Requirements
- Proficient knowledge of medical terminology and coding practices.
- Experience working in a medical office setting is preferred.
- Familiarity with ICD-10 and ICD-9 coding systems.
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations and compliance standards.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Previous experience in insurance verification or related roles.
- Proficient computer skills, including experience with Epic, or other electronic health record (EHR) systems,
