Role and Responsibilities
The essential roles, responsibilities, and activities the employee can expect may include, but are not limited to: Greet people entering the center, answer phone calls on a multi-line, schedule transportation, assist volunteer drivers with schedules, count daily activity participation & services, make copies, fax, accept cash/checks and write receipts, complete weekly deposits, do inventory for office supplies/building supplies/janitorial/and programming supplies, answer questions and provide resources to seniors, lock/unlock building to open and close the center, and assist staff with various tasks, and/or special events, contact vendors occasionally, stock office supplies, assist seniors with various tasks, enter data into my senior center portal kiosk software, update calendars, assist with decorating the Center, and other various tasks.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
The candidate for this position must have exceptional customer service skills, must be able to read and write legibly, be able to multitask in a noisy environment, enjoy working with the senior population, be organized, have basic knowledge of some computer skills or be willing to learn. The above requirements are normally obtained through a high school diploma or some basic college courses, along with years of work experience with the senior population in an office or nonprofit setting. Candidate for this position must provide references and may be subject to a background check, drug/alcohol screening, and hold adequate driving record, no charges involving aggravated assault with vulnerable population/exploitation/or abuse charges. Any money handling charges would also disqualify any candidate from this position.
Benefits
The employee will receive holiday pay for days they are normally scheduled to work and the Senior Center is closed for holidays after completion of 90 days probation. A simple IRA company non-elective contribution benefit is also provided. Sick time & Vacation time is accrued per pay period after 90 days. Life/Dental/Vision/Short Term Disability company paid is awarded after 90 days of employment as well. This is an employer paid benefit to each employee.
Additional Notes
The Greater Niles Senior Center is open Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. We are closed for the holidays, and when Niles Community Schools & Brandywine Public Schools are closed due to inclement weather. This part time position consists of approximately 20 hours weekly, generally in the morning 5 days a week. The arrangement of such hours will be discussed upon interview. Can be flexible if need be to accomodate (8:00-12, 8:30-12:30, or 9:00-1:00) Pay period(s) run for a 2 week cycle. This would be an excellent job for a mom wanting to earn extra money but still be able to run her kids to school daily, for a senior who wants to earn money and only work part time in the mornings, or anyone wanting to work only part time.
