What are the responsibilities and job description for the Long Term Sub: School Adjustment Counselor position at Greater Lowell Technical High School?
The position is anticipated to start in mid-November and last through April 2026
Overview:
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION:
To provide supportive services to students and their families relative to mental health and school related issues.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Participates in Student Assistance, Post Hospitalization, Section 504 Accommodation and Parent/Teacher team meetings, presenting an overview of student’s needs and recommended strategies for appropriate planning and support services.
2. Delivers student services as determined or requested by Director of Guidance & Counseling Services, Guidance Counselors, Parents, Students and Teachers to students through individual, group or family counseling.
a) Provides direct services to students through individual, group or family counseling. Conducts follow-up contact with family, as indicated. Screens all student referrals. Maintains progress notes. b) Consults with other staff about problems and progress of individual students c) Provides referral services when indicated and acts as a liaison with community’s mental health and other local and state agencies. d) Provides crisis intervention and crisis evaluation of students.
3. Provides emergency screening of students upon request of the Director of Guidance and Counseling Services when necessary.
4. Upon request of Director of Guidance and Counseling Services, fulfills duties within Guidance Department, such as participating in Team/Staff meetings, orienting staff in strategies to support students in counseling.
5. Provides written assessments as directed by Director of Guidance and Counseling Services when necessary.
6. Performs additional duties as assigned by the Director of Guidance and Counseling Services.
Qualifications:
1. MSW preferred and/or LICSW, Certified Mental Health Counselor
2. MA Certification as School Adjustment Counselor.
3. Strong clinical and diagnostic skills.
4. Ability to work comfortably with cultural diversity.
5. Experience in providing one-to-one and small group counseling to adolescents.
6. Ability to communicate and work well with adolescents, staff, parents, and agencies.
7. Experience working with students at the secondary level (preferred). LADAC certification preferred
