Position: Placement Specialist

Supervisor: Deputy Director
Location: Designated America’s Job Center of California (AJCC) Office (Glendale) and GLAD LA Office
Classification: Non-exempt, 100% FTE
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the supervision of the Deputy Director, the Placement Specialist:
- Provides employment services to deaf and hard of hearing people.
- Provides support services and sensitivity training to GLAD Employment Services (ES) staff and employers.
- Manages client recruitment, assessment, counseling, job development, referral to training programs.
- Handles negotiation and monitoring of training contracts, job placement and follow up contacts with clients and employers after placement.
- Works closely with Job Connection Interpreter.
- Is responsible for approval of timesheets for Job Connection Interpreter.
- Supervises and evaluates the Job Connection Interpreter.
- Reports to Deputy Director on operations and activities on a regular basis.
- Prepares weekly reports.
- Performs such tasks and responsibilities as may be delegated.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree is required.
- Fluency in American Sign Language is required.
- Previous experience in provision of job development services to unskilled and highly skilled deaf and hard of hearing people is required.
- Must possess the ability to relate and be sensitive to deaf people with varied communication skills and language levels, and be able to work with a diverse, multi-ethnic population.
- Demonstrated efficiency with Microsoft Office programs required.
- Be detail-oriented with strong organizational and written communication skills. Must prioritize and handle multiple tasks, sometimes with competing deadlines.
- Must maintain the highest level of confidentiality. Demonstrated ability to perform professionally. Punctuality and reliability are a must.
- Excellent interpersonal skills are required. Must maintain a cooperative relationship with co-employees, directors, employers, outside vendors, and the CEO.
- As business needs require, employee’s schedule may be adjusted to ensure coverage for Deaf Expos and other deaf outreach events that occur on weekends.
- Must have reliable transportation and maintain up-to-date auto insurance.

The Greater Los Angeles Agency on Deafness is a private non-profit organization that was founded in 1969 and now has 13 locations serving 10 counties in Southern California.

Salary Range: $35/hour ($72,800 per year)
