ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The cheer coach must have experience coaching cheerleading and demonstrate knowledge of cheerleading techniques, stunting, tumbling, choreography, conditioning, and skills development. The coach must follow all policies and procedures established by the MIAA and GLTS, display positive character, promote sportsmanship on and off the field, develop leadership skills in student-athletes, stress the importance of academic achievement, and build pride within the program, school, and community.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Candidates should have experience coaching cheerleading.
- High school diploma is required.
- At least five years of coaching cheerleading experience is preferred.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES:
Coaches must have and remain current with the following certifications:
- Concussion Education Certification
- CPR/AED/First Aid Certification
- MIAA Coaches Education Certification
- Completion of LITIX Training
- Sport-Specific Training – NFHS
ABILITY, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
A highly effective coach possesses the ability to lead, motivate, and mentor student-athletes while ensuring a safe, structured, and positive team environment. The coach demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of cheerleading rules, techniques, stunting, tumbling, choreography, conditioning, and skills development, as well as familiarity with MIAA/MSAA/GLTS regulations and emergency procedures, including CPR, AED, and First Aid. Furthermore, the coach exhibits proficiency in fostering teamwork, managing conflicts, coordinating schedules, and cultivating positive relationships with student-athletes, parents/caregivers, and colleagues.
