Carpentry Instructor

Reporting to the Academy Supervisor, the Vocational Teacher’s role is to help students learn career area subject matter in accordance with educational frameworks and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible men and women.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• 
  Teaches district approved curriculum; prepares lesson plans accordingly.
• Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
• Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students.
• Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
• Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior and work ethic when working on special projects.
• Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and __in harmony with the goals__establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
• Ensures accuracy and best practices for compliance of organizational standards.
• Keeps records and prepares progress reports.
• Keeps current in discipline and teaching techniques.
• Participates in professional development and remains current in the field.
• Any other relative teaching duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Five years of full-time employment directly related to carpentry.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES:

Ch. 74 licensure in the area of Carpentry is required.

Possession of a current MA Construction Supervisor license is required.

ABILITY, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

An associate degree may substitute for one of five years of required employment experience, provided that the degree includes subject matter related to the Technical Knowledge and Skills strand (Strand 2) of the Vocational Technical Education Framework in Carpentry*, and/or in vocational education.

A bachelor’s degree may substitute for two of five years of required employment experience, provided that the degree includes subject matter related to the Technical Knowledge and Skills strand (Strand 2) of the Vocational Technical Education Framework in Carpentry*, and/or in vocational education.
