Job Summary:
The cook position is including but not limited to cooking, food preparation, cleaning, and etc. for preschoolers in one of the GLCAC Inc. kitchens. Responsible for assisting Culinary Services Manager and Senior Cook in menu planning, including the planning for the dietary needs of children with allergies and disabilities, and meal preparation for the program. Helps with contributing to the formation of good eating habits in young children and families.
Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for cooking and food preparation of meals.
- Assists in packaging of meals for delivery.
- Supports with receiving of goods, storage and inventory control of all kitchen supplies.
- Assists in ensuring that food service areas and food service equipment is well maintained and in good working condition.
- Serves as the backup food delivery person/van driver.
- Attends and assists with center committees and/or training days as needed.
- Assists with parents, staff, education, and classroom activity participation as assigned.
- Support school readiness activities and parent engagement.
- Other duties as required by the position.
Skills & Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Two years of experience in food service, or related role with equivalent responsibilities.
- Must have a working knowledge of food safety, universal precautions/infection control procedures.
- Must have Safe Food Handling certificate or willingness to obtain.
- Must have valid Massachusetts driver’s license free from any restrictions or encumbrances.
- Ability to work and communicate with administrative as well as center staff.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must have use of a car/means of transportation and valid Driver’s License.
- Flexible schedule is required to meet the needs of our children and families; including some evenings/weekends.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) desirable.
- CPR and First Aid certificate preferred or ability to maintain CPR/ FA within 30 days of hire.
- Show documented proof of current physical exam, negative TB test and proof of MMR immunity. (Hepatitis B immunity is advisable).
- Must have a suitable CORI, SORI & DCF background check on file prior to employment.
- Must have a suitable fingerprint check completed within the first thirty (30) days of employment.
Supervisory Responsibility: None.
Travel: Required for meetings, training, and off-site events.
Physical Demands: This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching, all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds.
Work Environment: This job operates in a professional kitchen environment and uses standard kitchen equipment, such as ovens, grills, steamers, kettles, slicers, and etc.
