ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Builds relationships by using names and initiating conversations with all school personnel, children, and volunteers.
- Maintains positive relationship with children, parents, co-workers and volunteers, while maintaining confidentiality of information related to parents and children.
- Communicates with supervisor, staff, and volunteers in a clear, concise and positive manner while using Listen First skills.
- Acts as a positive role model for children while implementing YMCA character development and following the four core values of Caring, Honesty, Responsibility, and Respect.
- Ensures compliance with YMCA Child Protection Policy and with state and local regulations.
- Assists in planning, leading, and implementing activities within the established guidelines.
- Acquaints children with rules, activities, schedule, and area.
- Takes responsibility for the leadership, guidance, and safety/welfare of each child in attendance. Supervises children, areas, and activities. Assists children during lunch and snacks at prescribed times.
- Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
- Maintains the program site and equipment, keeps supplies organized.
- Attends all staff meetings and trainings.
- Assists in training new staff and Volunteers.
- Helps to maintain proper records and department files.
- Assists in promoting and marketing program and services to engage Afterschool parents.
- Reports any problems, issues, or departmental concerns to supervisor in a timely manner.
- Provides for a strong professional image in regards to dress, attitude, punctuality, communication, and demeanor.

- High School Diploma
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- CPR, First Aid, AED certifications within 30 days of hire date and Child Abuse Prevention training along with other safety trainings assigned within 10 days of hire date.
- Must be committed to and supportive of the Y mission with an emphasis on support and empathy to health seekers.
- Must have the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from various social and economic segments of the community.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and to lift an equivalent of 40 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be noisy at times.
- Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions and extreme heat.
- Regularly required to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing with children and adults.
- Maintain composure in stressful situations.
- Must be able to see, hear and speak.
