What are the responsibilities and job description for the Camp Maintenance Assistant position at Greater Green Bay YMCA?
JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Camp Property Manager, and in accordance with the policies of the Greater Green Bay YMCA, the Camp Maintenance Assistant will ensure well-maintained and clean facilities at Camp U-Nah-Li-Ya. This position will perform various cleaning and repair duties while maintaining a flexible work schedule to include some weekend work.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Maintain grounds, houses, lodges, cabins, sauna, and dining hall to be clean and ready for use through facility requests from program staff. Follow the bathroom and cabin-cleaning format approved by the Camp Executive.
- Perform various facility repairs through routine site inspection, work request completion, Executive’s observations, and staff meetings.
- Assist in maintaining mechanical machines including all vehicles, equipment rentals, small engines, outboard motors, snowmobile, etc. through routine preventative maintenance and repairs.
- Assist with maintenance of all camp related equipment as outlined by the Camp Executive to include all kitchen, bathroom and program equipment, as well as furnaces, fans, and trailers.
- Perform routine safety inspections of site and facilities, eliminating any unsafe conditions.
- Distribute supplies around camp and instruct others of proper locations and use of the equipment and supplies.
- Perform general landscaping maintenance, which includes mowing, trimming, planting, and forestry work; ensuring paths are free of trip hazards. Keep roads, paths, and walkways free of snow and ice, and groom ski trails as directed.
- Assist in the cutting, splitting, drying and distribution of an adequate supply of firewood all year round.
- Provide maintenance assistance during Program Weekends (Saturday and Sunday) and all Sunday’s during Summer Program as determined by the Camp Property Manager.
- Maintain an orderly and safe Shop Building along with worksites, storage, and outdoor space around the Shop.
- Conduct and document regular fire safety and suppression inspections of camp buildings and property.
- Follow weekly, monthly and seasonal work outlines. Follow written work schedules and complete projects on time.
- Be available during off-hours for emergency situations such as snowfall, icing, furnace repair, etc.
- Attend regular property staff meetings to report any conditions of equipment and buildings that need repair or attention that staff need to know for safety and customer relations along with projects in process or delays.
- Assist in room set-ups so they are completed before the group arrives and assist in tear down after the event.
- Know and follow the established Human Resources and Business Office procedures of the Association.
- Exemplify the YMCA character values of CARING, HONESTY, RESPECT, and RESPONSIBILITY in all aspects of job performance and relationships with others at camp.
- Conduct routine water softener and filtration maintenance.
- Assist in the preparation and execution of volunteer work weekends.
- Act according to facility protocol to ensure safety of all staff and children which includes:
- Adhere to policies related to boundaries with staff and children.
- Attend required abuse risk management training.
- Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
- Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
- Ensure unused rooms and closets remain locked.
SKILLS AND TRAINING
The Camp Maintenance Assistant position requires the ability to follow instructions, be self-starting by identifying facility needs, and work with little supervision. Must have at least one-year experience in a variety of skills that may include janitorial, small engine mechanics, automotive, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, welding, painting, and general landscaping. This person must be able to lift up to 80 lbs., routinely climb ladders, bend and reach into any areas of the buildings on site that require maintenance. Must be comfortable working with paint, fuel, varnishes, and other common effluvious chemicals. This position is required to run errands for supplies and parts, and requires a current valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record according to Green Bay YMCA policy. The ability to work well with others is required. Certification in CPR/AED and First Aid is required within 60 days of hire.
