Job Title – Coffee Production Assistant
Job Summary
As a production assistant at Greater Goods, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and smooth operation of the warehouse, contributing to the production of high-quality coffee products. You’ll assist not only in the packing, production and shipping/fulfillment of whole bean, ground, and cold brewed coffee for daily delivery and shipment, but in the quality control and roast fulfillment process as well. Coffee is a diverse and booming industry with endless opportunities. There are many steps that happen before that caffeinated liquid gets poured into your cup. In this dual dynamic role at Greater Goods Roasting, you’ll have the opportunity to see coffee from its various stages, beginning with the green, to roasted, to packaged.
A production assistant assists with general warehouse tasks, such as inventory management, cleaning the warehouse, and order fulfillment. They must adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment. The role requires attention to detail, physical stamina, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. We’re passionate about coffee, and we love to share that, so we host weekly training sessions for our production team led by our head roaster, trainer, or production manager.
Job Responsibilities
- Ability to stand on your feet for long periods of time.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis.
- Remaining detail-oriented while multitasking in a fast-paced environment.
- Working well on your own and with others while maintaining a sense of urgency.
- Maintaining cleanliness and organization of the roastery, including regular cleaning of equipment and work areas.
- Following safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for all warehouse staff.
- Assisting with general warehouse tasks, such as inventory management, order fulfillment, and shipping/receiving.
- Packaging and labeling coffee products, ensuring proper sealing and adherence to quality standards.
- Operating machinery and equipment used in the production process, such as scales, grinders, sealers, and packaging machines.
- Assisting with the receiving and inspection of coffee shipments, ensuring accuracy, quality, and proper handling.
- Monitoring and maintaining inventory levels of coffee beans, packaging materials, and other supplies.
- Conducting regular quality checks to ensure that coffee products meet our standards (e.g., neatly placed labels and securely packed items).
- Attending weekly cuppings, learning and demonstrating an understanding of our coffees, charity partners, processes, and the supply chain of coffee.
- Assisting with walk-in client sales and customer service as needed.
- Making and kegging of cold brew kegs and other products.
- Cleaning returned kegs for future use.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Punctuality and Reliability: Consistent attendance is critical to warehouse operations.
- Effective Communication: Ability to communicate effectively and willingness to ask questions.
- Physical Endurance: Must be able to stand, move around all day, and withstand loud noises like the coffee roaster, coffee grinder, and coffee filling machines.
- Experience: Warehouse or manufacturing experience is preferred but not required; we will train the right candidate.
- Eligibility: Must be eligible to work in the US with no restrictions and have a reliable source of transportation.
