What are the responsibilities and job description for the Orthodontic Dental Assistant position at Greater Des Moines Orthodontics?
Orthodontic Clinical Assistant
Greater Des Moines Orthodontics - Waukee, IA
Full-time and Part-Time Available | M-Th 4 day workweeks or 6 Clinical Days Every 2 Weeks | No Evenings or Weekends
Greater Des Moines Orthodontics is looking for a dependable, personable, and detail-oriented Clinical Assistant to join our growing orthodontic practice in Waukee.
We are a newer, locally owned orthodontic practice led by Dr. Cameron Geyer and Dr. Austin Foster, both University of Iowa-trained, board-certified orthodontists. Our goal is to provide excellent orthodontic care in a modern, friendly environment while building a workplace where people enjoy coming to work and take pride in the care they provide.
Because we are still a growing practice, this is a great opportunity for someone who wants to become an important part of the team as the office grows.
What You'll Do
Our clinical assistants work closely with the doctors and patients throughout orthodontic treatment. Responsibilities may include:
- Assisting with orthodontic appointments and maintaining efficient patient flow
- Removing and replacing archwires and ties
- Placing separators and assisting with bands and appliances
- Preparing teeth and materials for bonding procedures
- Taking digital photographs, panoramic/cephalometric X-rays, and intraoral scans
- Working with digital orthodontic workflows and scanners
- Providing retainer, appliance, oral hygiene, and home-care instructions
- Identifying loose brackets, broken appliances, poking wires, and other common orthodontic issues
- Sterilization, infection control, and operatory turnover
- Maintaining accurate clinical documentation
- Helping monitor clinical supplies and inventory
- Communicating with labs when needed
- Keeping clinical areas organized, stocked, and ready for patients
- Working together with the rest of the team to complete end-of-day responsibilities
While this is primarily a clinical position, the ability and willingness to help with front-office responsibilities is highly desirable. This may include answering phones, scheduling patients, checking patients in and out, collecting payments, helping with insurance information, and assisting with other administrative tasks as needed.
We are a small office, so teamwork and versatility matter. We want someone who notices what needs to be done, helps coworkers without being asked repeatedly, and is comfortable stepping into different roles when the office needs it.
Who We're Looking For
The right person is:
- Friendly and comfortable interacting with both kids and adults
- Reliable and punctual
- Detail-oriented
- Able to learn new systems and clinical procedures quickly
- Organized and able to stay productive in a fast-moving environment
- Comfortable receiving feedback and continuing to improve
- Professional with patients and coworkers
- Interested in becoming very good at orthodontic assisting, not simply completing assigned tasks
- Comfortable learning or assisting with front-office responsibilities
Previous dental assisting experience and / or training is required. Previous orthodontic specific work is highly desirable, but not required.
Candidates who already have experience with both clinical assisting and front-office dental responsibilities will be especially valuable.
Schedule
Our typical patient hours are approximately 7:30 AM to 4 PM, four days per week (M-Th), alternating with a week of seeing patients on only Wednesday and Thursday.
This position is generally 30-32 hours per week, although hours may vary somewhat depending on the patient schedule and needs of the practice. To start, there is also an option to do alternating weeks of M-Th(4 day week) and W-Th only(2 day week), (only clinical days).
We are building the practice with a focus on excellent clinical care, modern technology, efficient systems, and a great patient experience, all built on a fun and team-oriented work environment. As the practice grows, we want team members who are excited to grow with it.
If you are dependable, personable, enjoy working with patients, enjoy working as a member of a team, and take pride in doing things well, we'd love to hear from you.
To apply: Please submit your resume through Indeed. We would also love to hear briefly about your dental or orthodontic experience, any front-office experience you have, and what you are looking for in your next position.
