POSITION: TRANSIT SUPERVISOR
POSITION SUMMARY: The Transit Supervisor is responsible for developing and maintaining an atmosphere of cooperation, teamwork, and problem solving while supervising the daily activities of Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority (RTA) Fixed Route and RTA Connect (Paratransit) Bus Operators. As an essential member of this critical thinking team, this person is expected to take the initiative in communicating the RTA mission to the workforce and taking ownership of service quality to the customer.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Supervises daily operations of the operator workforce to ensure safe and reliable service is provided to RTA customers by managing on-time performance, on-street bus repairs, and trolleybus power supply.
- Ensures adequate levels of operators are available to meet daily service requirements.
- Investigates accidents, collects pertinent data, evaluates potential for post-accident drug testing and completes and forwards required reports to appropriate RTA personnel and insurance providers.
- Administers corrective measures in order to maintain a high standard of professionalism including regular attendance and service that promotes a positive image of RTA. Ensures due process as outlined in the labor agreement.
- Activates Emergency Preparedness Plan and mobilizes resources for appropriate response to bus accidents, road closures, medical emergencies, weather emergencies, evacuations, potential terrorist attacks, and support to community agencies.
- Actively supports operator workforce by promoting effective communications, excellent customer service, and a safe environment for employees and customers.
- Assist in ensuring a clean, safe, and orderly environment for customers at all transit centers.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Directly supervises daily activities of both fixed route and project mobility operators. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the GDRTA's policies and applicable laws.
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

POSITION TYPE & EXPECTED SCHEDULE: The GDRTA is a 24/7 public transportation system. Successful candidate must be available to work any shift required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Language Skills - Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Mathematical Skills - Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
- Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Computer Skills - To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient with computer software systems including Excel spreadsheets, word processing (Word), and e- mail (Outlook).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Associates degree or equivalent. Three (3) years transit operations experience is preferred. Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with Passenger Endorsement is preferred. Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This an exempt, grade 15 position with a pay range an initial hiring range of $60,069.00 (minimum) to $75,088.00 (midpoint).
