We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Associate Director of Food & Nutrition to support and help lead our food service operations within a Head Start program. This role works closely with the Director to ensure that all children receive safe, nutritious and high-quality meals that meet federal and state guidelines.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Science
- Registered Dietician or Registered Dietician eligible with the expectation of completion within three (3) years from hire date.
- Certified ServSafe Manager credential
- Good computer skills – Microsoft applications and knowledge of nutrient analysis programs.
- Knowledge of USDA Childcare guidelines a plus
- Strong writing and verbal presentation skills
- Bilingual Preferred Spanish/Arabic/Bengali a plus
- Valid NJ driver’s license, good driving history. Use of own vehicle for self-transportation; local travel is required.
Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and group sessions on nutrition practices designed to prevent disease and promote good health for all Head Start families, specifically targeting those with nutritional deficiencies, weight concerns, and allergies.
- Counsel all underweight and overweight children twice annually and addresses all nutritional concern related to appetite, disease state, autism, behavioral disorders, etc.
- Develop and provide nutrition-focused activities for parents, teachers, and students.
- Provide ongoing review and participate in food service operations including but not limited to ordering, portion control, production records, sanitation, recipe compliance and procedures for all sites.
- Develop and oversee menu preparation to include applicable laws, nutrient analysis and review of product specifications and special menus for those with specific dietary needs.
- Oversee Food and Nutrition Supervisors and assists in the supervision of employees who directly plan, prepare, and serve meals.
- Review orders by Food and Nutrition Supervisors and adjust based on budget and forecasting needs.
- Reconcile deliveries and compile invoices for processing.
- Administer ServSafe Manager Exams and ensures compliance with all local health ordinances.
- Develop and provide training for Food and Nutrition staff members.
- Assist in the development and oversight of the nutrition programs provided to participants and employees of Greater Bergen Community Action (GBCA).
- Continue to develop strategies to expand the Food and Nutrition Programs for GBCA.
- Assume the duties of the Director in their absence and performs other duties as assigned.
