Seasonal Lifeguard – Summer 2026
The Altoona Campus is a non-profit organization committed to promoting safety, wellness, and community engagement. We are seeking motivated, responsible individuals to join our Aquatics team as lifeguards for the summer of 2026. Lifeguards play a critical role in maintaining a safe environment for all guests. This position requires focus, attention to detail, and the ability to act decisively in emergencies.
Position Overview
Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director and selected leadership team members, lifeguards are responsible for:
- Providing continuous surveillance and supervision of all pool guests.
- Enforcing pool rules consistently while maintaining a professional and approachable demeanor.
- Responding quickly and confidently to emergencies using knowledge and skills from training.
- Assisting with swim lessons, aquatics programs, rentals, and other duties as assigned.
- Attending all required trainings, in-service sessions, and drills to maintain skills and knowledge.
Safety is non-negotiable — lifeguards must always be alert, focused, and ready to respond in accordance with facility Emergency Action Plans (EAPs).
Required Qualifications
- Age & Background: Must be 15 years or older and if applicant is 16 years of age, they successfully complete a background check.
- Certifications: Must hold current American Red Cross certifications in Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and AED. Certifications must remain valid throughout employment.
- Skills & Abilities:
- Dependable, professional, and able to maintain focus during long periods of supervision.
- Committed to teamwork, training, and ongoing skill development.
Lifeguards who accept a conditional offer may take the Altoona Campus Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Course:
- Course fee waived for employees working through the end of summer.
- Lifeguards who leave before the end of the summer are responsible for the full course fee ($220).
