Data Governance Analyst Intern

Position Summary

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work full time during the summer and part time during the academic school year breaks. The part-time scheduling portion of the Internship is very flexible, allowing for the Intern to match their school schedule with GreatAmerica's workplace needs.

The Intern will complete the onboard training process and other appropriate onsite training classes. The Intern will be part of the Data Governance team and will be given the opportunity to work directly with our internal GreatAmerica Users. During that time the Intern will be getting hands on experience with multiple aspects of Data Governance. This includes but is not limited to: working with data artifacts and data artifact users, creating documentation, and supporting the implementation of the governance tooling. An ideal Intern for this role would excel in an evolving environment focused on initiating and maturing data governance processes and tooling.

Essential Functions

• Assist with the administration and operation of GreatAmerica's Data Governance Framework.
• Support the governance of critical business artifacts by documenting artifact metadata, business terms, data definitions, ownership information, and governance records.
• Perform metadata discovery, data lineage analysis, and information gathering activities using governance and data management tools.
• Assist with the development, documentation, monitoring, and reporting of data quality rules, controls, and governance metrics.
• Support governance workflow activities, including artifact intake, stewardship coordination, status tracking, issue management, and reporting.
• Create and maintain governance documentation, process documentation, training materials, user guides, and other governance-related communications.
• Assist with the implementation, testing, and adoption of Data Governance tooling and capabilities.
• Collaborate with business users, Data Stewards, technology teams, and governance stakeholders to support governance initiatives and resolve governance-related issues.
• Utilize Microsoft Office applications and AI-powered productivity tools, including Microsoft Copilot, to improve efficiency, research information, create documentation, and support governance activates.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education: The ideal candidate would have an entry level understanding of the IT industry fundamentals, concepts, terminology, platforms and processes. Student pursuing their Associate's degree in a technology, analytics, business, or related field is required.

Experience: No prior work experience is required.

Skills and Abilities

Computer Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams. Familiarity with SharePoint, web browsers, and business productivity tools. Ability to learn and utilize data governance, metadata management, reporting, and analytics platforms. Experience using AI-powered productivity tools such as Microsoft Copilot or similar solutions is preferred.

Other Requirements: Skilled in the use of a computer as productivity and collaboration tools. Demonstrates strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, organization, and documentation skills. Able to follow instructions, work independently with limited supervision, manage multiple priorities, and effectively collaborate in a team environment. Ability to research information, communicate findings clearly, and accurately enter, maintain, and analyze information using technology platforms.
