What You'll Do
Underwrite and Grow a Profitable Book of Business
- Evaluate new and renewal business submissions to determine acceptability of risk.
- Analyze underwriting information, loss history, and operational details to make sound underwriting decisions.
- Develop competitive coverage solutions and pricing recommendations.
- Manage renewals in accordance with underwriting guidelines and profitability objectives.
- Monitor account performance and make appropriate underwriting recommendations based on risk characteristics and results.
- Serve as a trusted partner to independent agents by providing responsive service and underwriting expertise.
- Communicate coverage decisions, quote status, rate development rationale, and underwriting requirements.
- Collaborate with agents to identify opportunities for profitable growth.
- Travel periodically to strengthen agency and customer relationships.
- Partner with insureds, agents, and internal business partners to resolve questions and issues.
- Ensure policies, documentation, and underwriting files are completed accurately and in compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
- Complete administrative responsibilities and reports in a timely manner.
- Represent Great West Casualty Company professionally at agency meetings, industry events, and customer functions.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Finance, Insurance, Risk Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 1-3 years of commercial insurance underwriting experience or equivalent industry experience preferred.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and decision-making skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to build and maintain strong business relationships with agents, customers, and internal partners.
- Strong negotiation skills and sound business judgment.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Self-motivated with a strong sense of accountability and ownership.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and insurance technology systems.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Willingness to obtain a Property & Casualty license and pursue ongoing professional development.
