We are seeking an outgoing and energetic Host/Hostess to be the welcoming face of our restaurant and an ambassador to guests visiting Mackinac Island. This role combines traditional host responsibilities with proactive guest engagement, including interacting with tourists walking by, promoting our menu offerings, and inviting guests to experience our restaurant. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys starting conversations with new people, and is passionate about delivering exceptional guest experiences from the first interaction to the final farewell.
Duties
- Engage tourists walking by with friendly, non-pushy conversation.
- Share quick, fun facts about the restaurant and its connection to Mackinac Island.
- Invite potential guests inside to view menus and current offerings.
- Answer common questions about menu items, pricing, and hours.
- Greet all guests with a warm, enthusiastic welcome and positive attitude.
- Manage table management software and ensure efficient seating based on guest preferences, restaurant capacity, and proper section rotation.
- Escort guests to tables and present menus.
- Communicate effectively with servers and kitchen staff to coordinate guest needs and special requests.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the host/hostess area.
- Manage wait times by providing accurate updates to guests awaiting tables.
- Handle guest inquiries and resolve issues related to seating and guest services.
- Help maintain cleanliness in entryway and patio areas.
- Support bussing and resetting tables as needed.
- Communicate guest feedback to management.
Qualifications
- Positive attitude with a passion for providing outstanding guest experiences.
- Previous restaurant or food service experience preferred but not required.
- Outgoing and naturally engaging personality.
- Comfortable initiating conversations with strangers.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with professional phone etiquette.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
