Summary:

Lead the construction and maintenance of electric transmission substations and field equipment, including metering, power system protection, substation apparatus, telecommunications, and high-voltage direct current facilities. Foster a positive work environment and ensure compliance with GRE policies. Represent field services needs and concerns within the broader transmission leadership team. Communicate the purpose and priorities behind strategic directives to the workgroup and support frontline leaders in executing them.


Total Rewards:

A typical starting range for this position is $172,000 - $245,000 annually. We offer market competitive base pay and adjust our offer accordingly based upon the value of the candidate’s knowledge, skills and experience. Responsibilities: Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Manage, coach and provide work direction to employees to maximize productivity and teamwork.

Partner with Director to set and communicate goals for the department in support of GRE’s strategic imperatives and the transmission divisions’ strategic imperatives.

Establish and monitor department budget (capital and expense) to support the transmission division budget. Provide status updates as required.

Prioritize and champion headcount requests from front line supervisors in support of long-range staffing needs for safety, efficiency, reliability, business continuity, and growth.

Monitor operational performance data to identify opportunities for improved efficiency and work with teams to focus on sustaining performance.

Prioritize documentation of critical operational work policies, standards, protocols and procedures for knowledge transfer and consistency of approach.

Promote a centralized technical team focus, encourage knowledge sharing, business improvements, and cross-functional business processes.

Provide support and coordination for effective installation of substation, transmission, telecommunication, and generation projects and economic maintenance activities.

Support supervisors to ensure contractual obligations are met for all entities that take substation maintenance services.

Ensure that the system maintenance guidelines are followed, and staff comply with regulatory policies, procedures, and recordkeeping (NERC, MRO, MISO, etc.).

Ensure compliance with environmental programs and regulations and encourage proactive approach to protecting the environment at transmission facilities.

Ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures, report and investigate accidents, maintain safety awareness, and promote all aspects of Great River Energy's (GRE) safety program to employees and contractors.

Ensure employees and contractors are aware of and adhering to safety, environmental, compliance, security and certification processes and procedures.

Ensure proper accounting of operating expenses for assigned buildings and facilities.

Exercise appropriate delegation of authority in authorizing and approving purchases on behalf of Great River Energy.

Maintain open and honest communication with staff, leadership, cross-functional colleagues, and stakeholders.

Support Company objectives in IBEW negotiations, JATC, and other labor relations arenas.


Qualifications:

Knowledge typically acquired through a bachelor's degree in engineering, business or a related technical field; or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge, with eight plus years of experience in the electric utility industry and five plus years’ experience in a supervisor or leadership position.


Knowledge of construction and maintenance of power and distribution substations along with understanding of the telecommunication equipment.

Skill in strategic planning include developing a long-range plan that includes meeting company goals, effect on company resources, and cost/benefit analysis.

Knowledge of financial forecasting and variance analysis for assigned operational units.

Ability to read and understand commercial services contracts and terms to ensure operational compliance.

Ability to work effectively with a union environment and coach, motivate, discipline and develop employees.

Ability to develop and deliver effective presentations to internal and external audiences.

Ability to respond effectively to critical, time sensitive issues in a professional, calm, and thoughtful manner.
