We are seeking a dedicated Porter/Dishwasher to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness in the restaurant and café areas, ensuring all dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized. Additional duties include sweeping and mopping the dining room, café, and bar floors, as well as assisting with various kitchen tasks as needed.

Responsibilities

• Wash dishes, glassware, utensils, pots, and pans using dish-washing equipment.
• Sweep and mop the dining room, cafe, and bar floors.
• Maintain the cleanliness of the dish-washing area, ensuring it is always organized and stocked with necessary supplies.
• Ensure all kitchen equipment is properly cleaned and sanitized.
• Assist with cleaning the restaurant and cafe and surrounding areas (floors, walls, etc.) regularly.
• Remove trash and recycling from kitchen and cafe areas as needed.
• Help with unloading deliveries and storing food supplies in the appropriate areas.
• Maintain a safe and sanitary work environment, adhering to all food safety regulations.
• Follow NYC Department of Health regulations.
• Ensure all cleaning supplies are stocked and available for daily use.
• Help with setting up and breaking down kitchen stations.
• Provide support to other team members, especially during busy times.

Qualifications

• 1 to 2 years of porter and/or dishwasher experience in a cafe, restaurant, or food service business. 
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
• Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs., reach, bend, and stand throughout an 8-hour shift.
• Respectful of fellow employees, managers, client and vendors.
• Able to communicate effectively with team members.
• Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation standards.
• Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently when needed.

Location: The New York Historical

Schedule: Full Time, On-Site

Base salary: $18.00/hour
