What are the responsibilities and job description for the Conservation Biologist position at Great Parks of Hamilton County?

Great Parks is looking for a conservation biologist who has experience with wildlife, including conservation, population dynamics and preventing conflicts. Responsibilities will include monitoring and working with volunteers as well as managing programs and projects at multiple parks and preserves. Competency managing imperiled wildlife, such as herpetofauna and bats, as well as common wildlife such as white-tailed deer and geese, preferred.

 

Be part of a team working to conserve natural resources for future generations! We protect and preserve over 17,000 acres of land in Hamilton County, Ohio.  

  • BA/BS degree in biological sciences, natural resource management, or similar field. 
  • Strong collaboration skills & adaptability.
  • Experienced field biologist. 
  • Broad knowledge of conservation and ecosystems in Hamilton County, OH.
  • Experience developing, directing, and managing multiple projects and timelines.
  • Knowledge of current trends and strategies in conservation, environmental planning, and monitoring.
  • Assesses habitat quality and populations to identify issues and prioritize areas for management. 
  • Monitors and manages plant and wildlife populations in terrestrial and aquatic environments. 
  • Designs studies, implements surveys, and manages habitats to support diverse communities of plants and animals.
  • Collates and analyzes data using statistics, prepares reports and presentations, and writes reports and summaries.
  • Serves as lead in planning wildlife management and habitat management projects. 
  • Maintains database records and spatial data on plant cover and plant and animal diversity. 
  • Processes and interprets data using GIS software.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree in biology, botany, or other natural resources-related field required 

3-5 years’ experience that includes working knowledge of GIS, databases, and wildlife and natural resource monitoring, restoration, and management.    

Ability to document identity and employment eligibility within three (3) days of original appointment as a condition of employment in compliance with Immigration Reform and Control Act requirements.

 LICENSE & CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

State Motor Vehicle Operator’s License that meets GPHC current carrier guidelines. Possess or have the ability to obtain State Pesticide Applicator’s License within one year of employment, Ohio Prescribed Fire Manager certification within first eligible training cycle, and CPR within one month of employment.
