Great Oaks Legacy Charter School (GOLCS) seeks an experienced, mission-aligned urban educator to serve as a School Psychologist and member of the Child Study Team. The School Psychologist plays a critical role in ensuring that students with disabilities receive comprehensive psychological evaluation, compliant special education services, and high-quality social, emotional, and behavioral support that enables success in school, college, and career.

The School Psychologist collaborates closely with students, families, educators, and community partners to create safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environments while ensuring full compliance with federal and New Jersey special education regulations. This is a twelve month position with evaluation and ESY support between June and August.


REPORTING RELATIONSHIP & EVALUATION

The School Psychologist reports to the Managing Director or Network Director of Student Services (or designee). The role includes:

  • Ongoing supervision and weekly check-ins
  • Informal feedback cycles
  • Formal evaluations twice per year

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Psychological Assessment & Eligibility

  • Conduct comprehensive psychological evaluations for students referred for initial evaluation or reevaluation.
  • Interpret cognitive, academic, social, emotional, and behavioral data to determine educational impact.
  • Participate in identification, evaluation planning, eligibility, annual review, and triennial review meetings.
  • Provide clear, family-friendly explanations of evaluation findings and recommendations.
  • Ensure all evaluations and reports meet NJAC 6A:14 timelines and compliance requirements.

2. Case Management & IEP Compliance

  • Serve as case manager for assigned students, coordinating development, implementation, say monitoring, and evaluation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Facilitate communication between school and home throughout the IEP process.
  • Support development of Present Levels of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance (PLAAFP), goals, accommodations, and services.
  • Write counseling goals, behavioral goals, and related IEP components as appropriate.
  • Complete marking-period IEP progress reports and maintain accurate special education documentation.
  • Maintain confidential student records in accordance with federal, state, and district regulations.

3. Counseling, Mental Health, and Crisis Response

  • Provide crisis intervention and risk assessment as needed.
  • Coordinate with families and outside agencies when community-based mental health services are required.

4. Behavioral Assessment & Intervention

  • Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and develop Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
  • Use data to recommend intervention adjustments and improve student outcomes.
  • Provide consultation and training to staff on evidence-based behavioral strategies.

5. Professional Collaboration & Leadership

  • Serve as an active member of the Child Study Team and broader Student Support Services team.
  • Provide professional development to staff on mental health, behavior, disability awareness, and interventions.
  • Participate in weekly meetings and required professional learning.
  • Collaborate with school and network leadership to improve student outcomes and compliance systems.
  • Support school-wide initiatives that promote inclusion, resilience, and student well-being.

6. Data Use, Documentation, and Compliance

  • Analyze academic, behavioral, attendance, and assessment data to guide interventions.
  • Prepare and submit all required psychological, counseling, and compliance reports.
  • Ensure timely completion of evaluations, IEP documentation, and regulatory reporting.
  • Protect confidentiality and exercise professional discretion in all communications.

Qualifications

Required

  • Master's degree or higher in School Psychology or related field
  • New Jersey Certified School Psychologist (or eligibility)
  • Strong knowledge of NJAC 6A:14 and IDEA compliance
  • Demonstrated experience conducting psychological evaluations and writing reports
  • Experience providing counseling and behavioral interventions in school settings
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse students, families, and educators
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and urban education

Preferred

  • Experience serving as special education case manager
  • Experience with EdPlan as an Special Ed Management System
  • Experience conducting FBAs/BIPs and data-driven behavioral consultation
  • Urban school or charter school experience
  • Training in crisis intervention, trauma-informed practice, or SEL frameworks

Great Oaks Legacy Charter School offers a competitive and equitable compensation package that increases based on years of relevant experience, with a minimum base salary of $85,000, along with a comprehensive benefits package.
