Job Purpose
The Student Success Coordinator is a vital member of the Great Oaks High School team, responsible for fostering student engagement, academic achievement, and personal growth. This role focuses on supporting students—particularly those involved in the YouthBuild program—by addressing academic barriers, coordinating intervention services, and ensuring access to supports that help students stay on track to graduation and workforce readiness.
This individual works closely with the Assistant Director, YouthBuild staff, and instructors to implement targeted academic support strategies and career-aligned interventions for opportunity youth who face multiple barriers.
Duties and Responsibilities
Primary job duties and responsibilities:
Student Engagement and Academic Support
- Develop individualized success plans for students, particularly those in YouthBuild, focused on academic, social-emotional, and career goals.
- Deliver targeted one-on-one and small-group academic support in core subject areas (Math, English, Science, Social Studies), in partnership with tutors and instructional staff.
- Monitor academic progress and attendance data to identify students who are off-track and coordinate timely interventions.
- Assist students in developing study habits, executive functioning skills, and test preparation strategies.
- Support credit recovery and online coursework completion (Edmentum), including scheduling, accountability, and academic motivation.
YouthBuild Program Collaboration
- Collaborate with YouthBuild staff to ensure academic support aligns with workforce training and credentialing goals.
- Help integrate social-emotional learning, trauma-informed practices, and wraparound supports into daily academic routines.
- Serve as an academic case manager for YouthBuild students—ensuring consistent communication, academic planning, and career coaching.
Family & Community Connection
- Build strong relationships with students and families to promote engagement and retention.
- Facilitate parent meetings, academic conferences, and outreach to support student progress and graduation plans.
- Coordinate with community partners to connect students to tutoring, counseling, and enrichment services.
School Culture & Systems
- Contribute to school-wide efforts to create a culture of success, respect, and accountability.
- Maintain detailed documentation of student interventions, progress reports, and academic recovery plans.
- Support attendance, behavior, and academic recognition initiatives that celebrate student milestones and growth.
Qualifications, Education and Experience
Necessary and desirable qualifications include, but are not limited to, the following:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, social work, or related field
- Experience working with youth who have been disconnected from traditional education
- Strong knowledge of academic intervention strategies and case management practices
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
- Cultural competency and trauma-informed approach to student support
Preferred:
- Experience with YouthBuild, alternative education, or opportunity youth
- Knowledge of online learning platforms (e.g., Edmentum), career and technical education (CTE), or work-based learning
- Bilingual or multilingual abilities a plus
Working Conditions
This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment. The employee may be required to deal with students with behavioral risks.
