Job Purpose
As the leader of a dropout recovery high school, your primary role is to re-engage and empower students who have disengaged from traditional education. You will provide strategic direction, foster a supportive learning environment, and implement innovative approaches to address academic and personal challenges. Beyond administrative responsibilities, you will inspire and motivate students, creating a culture that recognizes their unique potential. This role is instrumental in guiding students onto a successful academic path and shaping a positive and impactful educational experience..
Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership and Operations
- Oversee daily school operations regarding academic quality, operational effectiveness, staff development, student retention, and enrollment growth.
- Ensure high standards of student achievement and behavior.
- Commit to the academic and Career Technical Education (CTE) goals and philosophy of Oakmont Education and GOHSCC.
- Develop and implement school policies while maintaining compliance with state charter laws.
- Maintain professional relations with parents, board, community, and local organizations.
- Use data to make decisions and direct the activity of self and staff.
- Lead and participate in school outreach activities that generate enrollment and build community partnerships.
Curriculum and Instruction
- Promote high levels of student achievement through rigorous and engaging instruction aligned with the GOHSCC instructional framework.
- Implement data-driven strategies and student support systems that address academic and behavioral struggles holistically.
- Ensure effective implementation of MTSS.
- Develop partnerships with external organizations that provide enrichment opportunities, cultural experiences, and student support.
Career Technical Education (CTE)
- Guide implementation of the GOHSCC CTE model with focus on:
- Construction Trades
- Manufacturing
- Healthcare
- Business and Entrepreneur
- Support credential attainment, postsecondary placement, and retention.
- Assist in identifying community and industry partners to establish Workforce Advisory Committees for each pathway.
- Participate in community meetings that strengthen and expand CTE programming in Davenport.
Administrative
- Oversee building-level budget and expenditures responsibly.
- Submit required reports to the Iowa Executive Director.
- Maintain confidentiality in all student and staff matters.
- Develop and execute marketing and enrollment plans.
- Oversee school admissions process in compliance with Iowa law and charter contract.
Facility and Personnel Development
- Maintain a safe, attractive, and well-functioning school facility.
- Hire, supervise, and evaluate staff following appropriate processes.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and professional development for all staff.
- Lead school improvement initiatives through data, collaboration, and professional learning.
- Foster positive relationships among staff, students, and parents.
Qualifications, Education, and Experience
Necessary and desirable qualifications include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Must have a passion for improving urban students’ educational opportunities and building a strong, mission-driven organization.
- Commitment to continued personal and professional growth, and a commitment to the company’s mission, vision, and growth.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and presentation skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Experience in providing professional development training in areas of school improvement.
- A demonstrated record of success.
- Passion for working with, and teaching, youth of various social, educational, and economic backgrounds and levels.
- Willingness to go “above and beyond” to support students in achieving academic goals.
- Proficiency in the use of technology
- Education Preferred:
- Bachelors degree
- Master’s degree in Educational Leadership or relevant concentration
- Experience preferred:
- 3 years experience as a school leader with significant areas of responsibility
