We are actively looking for a Substation Power Engineer who thrives on technical challenge and independence. You’ll lead projects from start to finish, with minimal oversight, because we trust talented people to do great work.


Responsibilities

  • Learn and work within company standards, policies and procedures for engineering projects.
  • Conduct field investigations and document existing conditions.
  • Coordinate multi-discipline design efforts to develop conceptual designs, rough orders of magnitude, drawing packages, and technical specifications.
  • Assist leadership with new proposals.
  • Provide design guidance and engineering for a complete drawing package.
  • Perform engineering calculations including ground grid analysis, short circuit studies, protective device coordination studies, lightning protection studies, and load flow analysis.
  • Prepare detailed equipment schedules, one line diagrams, three-line diagrams (AC/DC elementary), station elevations, clearance confirmation, and duct bank details.
  • Oversee the assembly of drawing packages such as Schematic Design, Design Development, and 30/60/90 IFC Documents.
  • Meet with management to review project deliverables, milestones, and design requirements during the kickoff of each project.
  • Work with Subcontractors on design-build projects to review drawings, answer construction questions, and help estimate as necessary.
  • Attend and actively participate in engineering meetings. Actively respond to client communications if needed.
  • Mentor junior staff.


Qualifications

  • 3 years of Power Electrical Engineering experience (12kV to 345kV)
  • Project Management and Project Lead experience.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in the design of these systems.
  • Advanced understanding of electrical systems, design principles, and power flow.
  • AutoCAD, Revit, Microsoft Excel, Outlook.
  • Experience with calculation software such as ETAP, SKM, WinIGS, or EasyPower.
  • Experience with all phases of the design process: schematic design, design development, and construction documents.
  • Advanced understanding of NESC and IEEE codes.
  • Ability to travel domestically for fieldwork, due diligence, and onsite meetings.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.


Education, Certification and Skill Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or EET from an ABET accredited university.
  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) license a plus, but not required.
  • Advanced degree a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to multitask multiple projects at a time efficiently.
