What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Kitchen Manager position at Great North Hospitality Group?
Job Overview
Are you a natural leader who loves great food, a busy kitchen, and being part of a team that knows how to have fun while getting the job done?
We’re looking for an Assistant Kitchen Manager to join our team and help lead the action behind the scenes. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who enjoys a fast-paced kitchen, takes pride in serving up delicious food, and knows that a great guest experience starts with a great kitchen team.
As an Assistant Kitchen Manager, you’ll help oversee day-to-day kitchen operations, support and develop our team, maintain food quality and consistency, and keep the kitchen running smoothly—even when the tickets are flying!
If you’re ready to take your kitchen experience to the next level and want to work with a team that values great food, great people, and a great atmosphere, we’d love to meet you!
What You’ll Do
- Help lead daily kitchen operations and keep the team moving during busy shifts
- Oversee food preparation and cooking to ensure food is delicious, consistent, and served according to our standards
- Lead by example and create a positive, team-oriented kitchen environment
- Train, coach, and develop kitchen team members on recipes, food preparation, proper cooking techniques, and food safety
- Help manage inventory, ordering, product rotation, portion control, and food waste
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen throughout every shift
- Ensure compliance with health department regulations and company food safety standards
- Assist with scheduling, shift assignments, and managing kitchen labor
- Help monitor food costs, product usage, and overall kitchen profitability
- Work closely with the General Manager and leadership team to improve kitchen operations
- Jump in wherever needed—because the best kitchen leaders aren't afraid to get their hands dirty!
What We’re Looking For
- Previous restaurant kitchen experience in a fast-paced environment
- Previous supervisory, lead cook, Kitchen Manager, or Assistant Kitchen Manager experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, and kitchen operations
- A passion for good food and high-quality execution
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and hold a team accountable
- Ability to remain calm, organized, and positive during busy shifts
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
- Experience with inventory, ordering, food cost, and waste control is a plus
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and during busy special events
- A hands-on approach—you’re willing to work alongside your team, not just manage from the sidelines
Why Join Our Team?
This isn't just another kitchen management job. It’s an opportunity to be part of a team that takes pride in what comes out of the kitchen and the experience we create for our guests.
We believe our people are the key ingredient. You’ll have opportunities to grow your leadership skills, learn the business, work alongside experienced restaurant leaders, and make a real impact on the success of the kitchen.
If you love food, thrive in a busy kitchen, and are ready to lead a team that brings the heat, we want to hear from you!
