Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced CNC Setup Operator join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for setting up, proving out, and operating CNC machines to ensure efficient production and high-quality output. The ideal candidate has a strong background in CNC setup, tooling, and machine operations, with the ability to troubleshoot, train others, and support continuous improvement.
Essential Functions
- Set up CNC machines, load programs, and perform first article inspections (“first good part”).
- Train and assist machine operators on proper machine use and setups.
- Expedite workflow to keep production on schedule.
- Perform minor machine and part repairs as needed.
- Recommend and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and quality.
- Maintain tooling inventory and request replacements as required.
- Perform preventative maintenance on equipment.
- Develop and implement tooling improvements and cost-saving initiatives.
- Assist with quality control activities including gage setup and inspection checks.
- Support secondary machine setup and operation (400, 500, 600, 700 series).
- Perform deburring and finishing work.
- Operate manual machines and material handling equipment when qualified and required.
Core Competencies
- Strong blueprint reading and interpretation skills.
- Knowledge of CNC machine setup, operation, and programming principles.
- Understanding of perishable tooling, chucks, fixtures, and machining processes.
- Ability to perform accurate measurements using calipers, micrometers, and gages.
- Knowledge of machine preventative maintenance and basic repair.
- Proficiency with hand tools and material handling equipment.
- Basic math and trigonometry skills.
- Strong commitment to safety and shop housekeeping standards.
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Two years of trade school or technical training preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of CNC machine shop experience.
- Minimum 5 years of CNC machine setup experience.
Job Conditions / Requirements
- Work performed in a metals manufacturing / machine shop environment.
- Standard day hours with potential evening shifts.
- Must provide own tools.
- Occasional interaction with external vendors/customers; frequent interaction with internal teams.
