Apprentice Diesel Technician
Overview
An Apprentice Diesel Technician works under experienced mechanics to learn how to diagnose, maintain, and repair heavy-duty diesel trucks (including Freightliner and Western Star models). This is an entry-level, hands-on training role designed to build skills toward becoming a certified diesel technician. We do offer a tool program to help you get started in your career.
️ Key Responsibilities

Assist senior technicians with:
- Engine diagnostics and repairs (diesel engines)
- Brake systems, suspension, and steering
- Electrical and electronic systems

Perform basic maintenance services:
- Oil changes, fluid checks, filter replacements
- Tire inspections and rotations
- Use diagnostic tools and software to identify issues
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Follow manufacturer and dealership repair procedures
- Accurately document work performed
- Participate in ongoing training programs (often manufacturer-sponsored)

Required Education:
Required Experience:
Required Skills and Abilities:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Completion of a formal diesel technology or automotive program from a technical school or community college is preferred.
Required Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working as a diesel technician or in a similar role within the automotive industry.
- Experience in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, electrical systems, and hydraulic systems.
- Proven track record of performing routine maintenance and inspections on diesel vehicles and equipment.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of diesel engine systems, including fuel injection, turbocharging, and exhaust systems.
- Ability to use diagnostic tools and software to identify and resolve mechanical and electrical issues.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail in troubleshooting and repairing diesel engines.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and regulations related to diesel engine maintenance and repair.
- Physical capability to lift heavy equipment and work in various environmental conditions.
