The opportunity:
The Senior DPO / Chief Mate is designated by the Company as the second in command of the subsea rock installation vessel (SRIV) and is the legally appointed representative of the Company responsible under existing law for the vessel in the absence or incapacitation of the Master. The SRIV is a DP2 specialized OSV equipped to carry varying types/grades of rock from quarries/port out to install as scour protection on project sites for offshore wind farms, over power/communication cables, or pipelines.
Responsibilities and functions include:
- May serve as the Officer in Charge of the Navigation Watch (OICNW) as directed by the Master.
- Manages the day-to-day activities of the deck and is responsible for the coordination and supervision of tasks performed by the deck crew, clients, and sub-contractors as directed by the Master.
- Shall ensure that these tasks are performed in compliance with the Company’s policies, procedures, and IIF safety culture.
- Assists the Master in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the vessel with a focus on navigation, piloting, DP Operations, emergency readiness and training, vessel stability and seaworthiness, maintenance of deck, safety, lifesaving, and cargo equipment, protection of the environment, as well as performance of cargo operations.
- May be assigned to run fall pipe equipment during rock installation activities as directed by the Master.
- Must be familiar with union labor agreements and apply that knowledge in crew resource management, cost control, crew competency assessment, and training.
- Shall cooperate and work closely with flag state, port state and coastal state officials, customer representatives, project team, Chief Engineer, and any other relevant personnel necessary for the safe and efficient operation of the vessel as directed by the Master.
- Experience with Kongsberg DP/VMS systems is a strong preference
- Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the Master.
Requirements:
- Must possess U.S. Coast Guard unlimited license for Chief Mate / Chief Officer, Oceans
- Must possess a Nautical Institute Unlimited DP Operator Certificate.
- Must possess a valid medical certificate
- Must possess a TWIC card
- Must possess a United States Passport
- Must have a minimum of 12 months experience as DPO in the offshore industry, preference is to have 24 months experience on DP2 vessels with a minimum of 6 months experience as Chief Mate
- Must possess the ability to understand and operate the vessel navigation, DP, and cargo systems including excavators, hoppers, conveyors, and the fall pipe.
- Must be willing and able to lead and train vessel crew in operations and maintenance of vessel lifesaving, safety, crane, mooring, and dynamic positioning systems.
