Position:                     Registered Nurse                                            Job Classification:           Non-Exempt

Reports To:                Deputy Director

Supervises:                Residents, Jail Alternatives and Federal male and female referrals assigned to offsite housing locations as mandated by Federal Bureau of Prisons.  Supervision may extend to visitors. 

Position Scope:          70 Staff and up to 250 Residents.

Position Summary:

The Great Falls Pre-Release Center is a non-profit Community Corrections worksite consisting of three Counseling campuses.  The campuses are minimum security and residential in nature, housing closely screened and selected for program acceptance, adult male and female felon offenders during their structured transition program for re-entry into the community.  The Centers also operate a Jail Alternative program for adult male/female clients and a Community Service program involving adjudicated males and females.

Responsible for assessing, planning, providing and evaluating preventative, curative and rehabilitative care for Residents of the Great Falls Pre-Release Center.  May advise Residents on health maintenance and disease prevention or provide case management.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

1.         Assist in screening process of new residents who may have health-related issues to help determine medical suitability for admission.  Provide assessment of condition based upon file review and additionally provide prognosis for potential issues.

2.         Assist staff in assessing resident health concerns.  Expected to communicate with other health care professionals pertaining to medical status of a particular resident.  Act as intermediary between Pre-Release Services and Montana Department of Corrections Health Services division.

3.         Consult and coordinate with health care providers to assess, plan, implement and evaluate resident care plans.  Refer residents to specialized health resources or community agencies furnishing assistance.  Prepare reports as necessary for outside agencies.

4.         Provide periodic health education programming to residents and staff on issues of potential health and safety concerns in risk taking behaviors.  For example: blood bourne pathogens, hepatitis, STDs, smoking, etc.

5.         Direct and coordinate infection control programs, advising and consulting with specified personnel about necessary precautions.  Act as Central Point of Contact for health issues related to infectious and communicable diseases.

6.         Prepare necessary reports as required to present to Community Health Departments, Physicians or Department of Corrections contacts related to the need for emergency care, or costs associated with indigent residents or Inmate workers.

7.         Identify fraudulent use of medication or examples of doctor shopping behaviors by residents.  At the request of treatment staff, review resident medications to help insure appropriateness of prescriptions.  Attend monthly staff meetings and present training.

8.         Assist residents with discharge planning pertaining to medical assistance or follow-up appointments.  Make sure residents receive treatment prescribed by doctors and other health care professionals.

9.         Maintain certification under American Red Cross or National Heart Association as a trainer for Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid and ensure front line staff is trained annually.

10.       Perform additional duties as requested or assigned.

Qualifications and Skills:

·       Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.

·       Three years’ experience in providing direct patient care.

·       Must possess strong understanding in techniques of interpersonal relations with ability to establish, understand and be sensitive to resident needs.  Must be able to work effectively with diverse personalities and be able to approach problems and situations in a non-threatening manner.

·       Effective verbal and written communication, good organizational and time management skills

·       Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, other agencies and the general public

·       Maintain positive working relationship with local, state and federal agency representatives.

 

Salary : $35 - $37
