Job Summary: This full-time position is responsible for supporting Great Explorations Children’s Museum’s fundraising efforts through the research, development, submission, and management of grant proposals and funding opportunities. The Grant Writer plays an integral role within the Development Department by identifying prospective funders, preparing compelling and accurate proposals, maintaining grant calendars and deadlines, and coordinating required reporting and stewardship activities. This position utilizes skills related to research, persuasive writing, project management, data collection, budgeting, and staff coordination and requires strong attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple deadlines, and a commitment to accurately communicating the museum’s mission, programs, community impact, and funding needs.
Responsibilities:
· Research, identify, and analyze government, foundation, corporate, and other grant opportunities that align with Great Explorations’ mission, programs, and strategic priorities.
· Lead the development, writing, preparation, and submission of grant proposals, letters of inquiry, applications, and supporting materials.
· Maintain a comprehensive grant calendar and tracking system for application deadlines, reporting requirements, award periods, and other grant-related deliverables.
· Coordinate with appropriate departments to gather program data, budgets, financial information, outcomes, participant demographics, and other information required for proposals and reports.
· Work with the CAO and Finance Department to develop grant budgets and ensure proposed expenses align with funding requirements and organizational needs.
· Assist in the preparation and submission of interim and final grant reports, including program outcomes, financial information, participant data, and impact stories.
· Monitor grant requirements and assist departments with ensuring funded programs are implemented in accordance with grant agreements, budgets, timelines, and funder expectations.
· Maintain organized and accurate grant records, including applications, agreements, correspondence, reports, supporting documentation, and historical funding information.
· Support stewardship and relationship-building efforts with foundations, corporate partners, government agencies, and other funding organizations.
· Represent and advocate for Great Explorations, its mission, programs, and community impact when engaging with funders and community partners.
· Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
· Experience in Grant Writing required
· Experience in not for profit/museum helpful
· Strong oral/written communication skills
· Attention to detail, strong follow through skills and ability to multitask
· Excellent planning and organizational skills
· Ability to see the big picture
Pay: $45,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
