Position Summary
The Bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and supporting daily accounting operations for the credit union. This role plays a key part in ensuring the integrity of financial data, timely reconciliation of accounts, and adherence to regulatory and internal compliance standards. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, organized, and experienced in financial record-keeping, preferably within a financial institution.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Accounting Activities
- Record, classify, and post daily financial transactions, including receipts, disbursements, accruals, and journal entries.
- Balance and reconcile general ledger accounts; investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in accordance with credit union policies and GAAP.
Reconciliations
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly account reconciliations, including:
- Bank accounts
- General ledger accounts
- Loan and deposit portfolios
- Suspense, clearing, and settlement accounts
- Identify and correct inconsistencies or errors in financial data.
Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Process vendor invoices, employee reimbursements, and corporate credit card reconciliations.
- Prepare and issue payments, ensuring proper documentation, approvals, and adherence to internal controls.
- Monitor outstanding receivables and follow up as necessary.
Reporting & Support
- Assist in month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Prepare routine financial reports for management as needed.
- Support auditors during internal and external examinations by providing requested documentation.
- Filing of the quarterly Call Report.
Compliance & Record Management
- Ensure financial practices adhere to NCUA regulations, internal policies, and industry standards.
- Maintain organized digital and physical financial files for audit readiness.
- Protect confidential member and organizational data at all times.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor's degree in accounting or finance preferred.
- 2 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience (credit union or banking experience highly preferred).
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and general ledger structure.
- Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Preferred
- Experience in a credit union or financial services environment.
- Familiarity with credit union core processing systems.
- Knowledge of NCUA regulations and standard financial controls.

Pay: $20.00 - $29.79 per hour
