What are the responsibilities and job description for the Industrial Maintenance Technician position at Great Dane Powder Coating inc.?
Position Overview
Great Dane Powder Coating is a stable, growing manufacturer looking for a skilled Industrial Maintenance Technician to maintain our Powder Coating and E-coat lines. If you take pride in solving problems with your hands, know your way around burners, three-phase motors, and pneumatic systems, and want to work somewhere your skills make a difference, we want to talk to you.
Our equipment is the heartbeat of this operation. You'll have the autonomy to diagnose problems, maintain your own tool and equipment room, the support of a team that respects skilled trades, and the variety to keep every day interesting.
What You'll Be Working On
Our plant runs on a mix of systems you'll get to know inside and out:
- Burner and combustion systems on our cure furnaces — ignition, flame safety, temperature control
- Three-phase electrical systems — motors, starters, VFDs, control panels, and power distribution
- Pneumatic (air-driven) systems — cylinders, valves, regulators, FRLs, and air logic
- Conveyors and drives — gearboxes, chains, belts, alignment, and speed controls
- Pumps and fluid handling — valves, piping, filtration, and flow control on our E-coat line
- Industrial controls — sensors, relays, limit switches, and basic PLC interaction
- Chillers and cooling systems — coolant flow and heat exchangers
What We're Looking For
You'll be a strong fit if you have:
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting burners or combustion systems (gas-fired ovens, furnaces, boilers, or similar)
- Solid working knowledge of three-phase motors and electrical troubleshooting — you can read a schematic and chase a fault
- Real experience with pneumatic systems — diagnosing leaks, replacing valves, troubleshooting air logic
- The mechanical instinct to take apart, diagnose, and rebuild industrial equipment
- A methodical, safety-first approach — you don't guess on live equipment
- The discipline to keep good records and stay on top of preventative maintenance
Background in manufacturing, automotive paint/coating, food processing, or any plant with gas-fired equipment and three-phase systems translates directly. Powder coating experience is a plus but not required — if you understand the systems, we'll teach you the process.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic issues across the plant
- Diagnose equipment failures and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime
- Perform and document preventative maintenance on production equipment and facility systems
- Maintain burners, pumps, conveyors, motors, and line components in working order
- Work with plant leadership to prioritize repairs and plan around production
- Keep tools, spare parts, and maintenance inventory organized
Cross-Training & Team Support
When the equipment is working and the PM list is current, you'll spend some time supporting the production team. Duties include light material handling, deliveries, or working at any designated a station. This is not filler work; it's how you learn our process from the inside, which makes you a better troubleshooter when something does go wrong. We're a tight crew and everyone pitches in.
Physical Requirements
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs
- Comfortable standing, walking, climbing, and working in industrial conditions for a full shift
- Comfortable working around hot equipment, chemicals, and moving machinery with proper PPE
Why Great Dane Powder Coating
- Stable, growing company — we've been here, and we're not going anywhere
- Day shift, Monday through Friday
- Your skills get used every day — burners, motors, pneumatics, controls.
- A team that respects skilled trades — your experience and judgment matter here
- Variety that keeps the job interesting — you're not staring at the same machine for 8 hours
