Qualifications:
Comprehensive knowledge of, and ability to implement high quality water safety programming and facility management. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to supervise aquatics staff and volunteers. Strong planning and organizational skills. Must be 16 yrs. Preferred: CPR Certification and First Aide Certification. Preferred to be a lifeguard or WSI instructor. Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
Essential Job Functions:
- Listing most important first
- Responsible for all aspects of providing swim lessons at the aquatic park.
- Attend staff training.
- Provide a safe and friendly swimming environment for all consumers.
- Participate in supervision of all patrons related to the provision of special events and swim lessons.
- Track participation numbers for all programs.
- Use sound teaching methods to accomplish the various skills within the American Red Cross swimming skill levels.
- Have the ability to perform the swimming skills taught to patrons.
- Quality of skill performance takes precedence over quality of students passed.
- Plan a daily lesson plan for each swimming lesson session
- Instructor’s responsibility to pick up class enrollments on the swimming board and know their enrollees.
- Have all swimming teaching tools ready for class each day and put them away appropriately.
- Report to swimming site 15-20 minutes prior to lessons time.
- Provide a positive reinforcement for participants. Smile. Have fun.
- Supervise and coordinate the swimming assistants duties, which are assigned to his/her program.
- If children attending the class had special accommodations, notify the Learn to Swim Coordinator promptly.
- If a child is absent two or more times, notify the Learn to Swim Coordinator.
- If there is a discipline problem, the instructor is to handle the situation immediately. If it continues, visit with the Learn to Swim Coordinator.
- If supplies are depleted, it is the instructor’s responsibility to notify the Learn to Swim Coordinator.
- Fill out appropriate paper work as assigned.
- Wear proper “Rec” attire.
- Be in the water with the students. A must for all lower swim levels.
- Be enthusiastic in the program; smile; providing positive reinforcement for participant and parent.
- Work all dates and carry out all duties assigned by the immediate supervisor. If unable to show up for the activity on time or at all for any reason, call ahead as soon as possible so arrangements can be made for substitute staff.
- Turn in time sheets and appropriate forms timely.
- Personal cell phone usage is not an essential job function unless directed by immediate supervisor or emergency situation.
Essential Job Requirements:
Education:
High School graduate. Preferred completion of the Lifeguard Certification Course and/or Water Safety Instructor Course.
Experience:
1-2 years experience in the area of aquatics programs. Supervisory experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Need to have the ability to see, verbally communicate and move about. Must posses an audible voice for communication and ability to lift light equipment. The ability to swim the swimming skills taught.
