Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
- Responsible for overseeing the planning, development, and execution of strategic business development initiatives, overseeing their direction and administration to drive growth and market expansion.
- Accountable for providing specialized insights with business leaders to implement strategies that support business goals and drive organizational performance.
- Oversees the acquisition of high-value new business opportunities in target markets, driving market share and revenue growth, while maintaining strong relationships with key agencies.
- Directs the evaluation and management of underwritten risks, ensuring quality and volume standards are met.
- Responsible for ensuring Business Development staff is well-versed in company procedures and relevant insurance laws and regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field.
Experience: Generally, a minimum of 18 years of experience in strategic business development, marketing, or a related role, including a minimum of 8 years of leadership experience. Completion of a professional designation preferred, such as Associate in Underwriting (AU), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), Program in General Insurance (INS) or Associate of Risk Management (ARM).
Scope of Job/Qualifications: Typically manages 2 or more reports. Contributes to the development of strategies, performance targets, and policies and procedures. Collaborates with management to understand workforce needs and position the organization as a preferred employer. Responsible for performance and coaching of staff and decisions regarding talent selection, development, and performance management. Plans and ensures that the team meets budget and performance targets. Responsible for ensuring compliance with insurance laws and regulations, applying underwriting rules, guidelines, and rating manual standards. Position requires frequent day and overnight travel (60% - 80% of time) to visit agents and brokers.
