Role Description The Junior Loan Officer / Loan Officer Assistant is a part-time, on-site role based in Brooklyn, New York, supporting loan officers in delivering a personalized mortgage experience. This role assists with gathering and organizing borrower documentation, inputting and maintaining loan files in internal systems, and preparing basic loan applications and disclosures under supervision. Day-to-day responsibilities include communicating with clients to clarify requirements, answering routine questions, scheduling appointments, and providing status updates to ensure a smooth lending process. The position also involves coordinating with underwriters and closers, tracking key milestones, and helping identify appropriate loan products based on client needs and guidelines. The Junior Loan Officer / Loan Officer Assistant contributes to a client-centered environment by maintaining accurate records, respecting confidentiality, and supporting continuous process improvement. The candidate should have an interest in transitioning into a Loan Origination role over time.
Qualifications
- Foundational knowledge of Loan Officers’ responsibilities and a strong interest in building a career in the Mortgage Industry.
- Customer Service skills with a focus on responsiveness, professionalism, and a client-centered approach.
- Basic understanding of Underwriting principles or willingness to learn guidelines, documentation requirements, and loan eligibility criteria.
- Effective Communication skills, including clear verbal and written communication and the ability to explain processes in accessible terms.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple files and deadlines with accuracy.
- Comfort working with loan origination software (Encompass), CRM tools(HubSpot), and standard office applications (e.g., spreadsheets, word processing).
- Ability to work on-site in Brooklyn, New York, collaborate with a small team, and maintain confidentiality of client information.
- Prior experience in banking, finance, or real estate is beneficial but not required; relevant coursework or licensing (e.g., NMLS registration) is a plus.
