Position Title:  Field Safety Coordinator II

Location:  North Alabama Area






Position Summary


The Field Safety Coordinator II leads and supports safety initiatives across multiple construction projects to ensure compliance with company policies, OSHA regulations, and applicable safety standards. This role partners with operations to conduct inspections, lead incident investigations, deliver safety training, mentor employees, and promote a proactive safety culture through hazard identification, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement.






Key Responsibilities 


 


Job Site Safety Oversight



  • Lead routine job site inspections, audits, and field safety observations to ensure compliance with company policies, OSHA regulations, and client safety requirements.

  • Identify unsafe conditions and behaviors and work with project management to develop and implement corrective actions.

  • Monitor high-risk work activities, including excavation, confined space entry, crane operations, traffic control, fall protection, lockout/tagout, and heavy equipment operations.

  • Review Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), pre-task plans, and permits to ensure hazards have been identified and controlled.

  • Verify employees are utilizing proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and following established safe work practices.

  • Assist Safety with developing and implementing site-specific safety plans.

  • Monitor housekeeping, work zone organization, and overall site conditions to reduce hazards and improve efficiency.






Safety Training & Communication



  • Conduct new employee safety orientation and onboarding.

  • Deliver toolbox talks, weekly safety meetings, and task-specific safety training.

  • Mentor and coach field employees, supervisors, foremen, and developing safety professionals on hazard recognition and safe work practices.

  • Identify training deficiencies and coordinate required certifications and refresher training.

  • Promote employee engagement by encouraging hazard reporting, near-miss reporting, and proactive participation in safety initiatives.

  • Coach supervisors and employees to improve hazard recognition, accountability, and safe work performance.










Incident Response & Documentation



  • Assist investigations involving workplace injuries, vehicle accidents, property damage, environmental incidents, and near misses.

  • Gather witness statements, photographs, evidence, and documentation to determine root causes.

  • Complete timely and accurate incident investigation reports.

  • Develop corrective and preventive action plans to reduce recurrence.

  • Maintain confidential incident files and required regulatory documentation.

  • Assist with workers' compensation reporting, return-to-work coordination, and insurance investigations as needed.






Compliance & Program Support



  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, MSHA (where applicable), ADEM, and company safety requirements.

  • Conduct internal safety audits and assist during customer and regulatory inspections.

  • Maintain inspection reports, safety observations, training records, certifications, SDS files, and regulatory documentation.

  • Monitor subcontractor compliance with company and project safety requirements.

  • Assist in developing, implementing, and continuously improving company safety programs and procedures. 

  • Analyze inspection and incident trends to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

  • Support environmental compliance initiatives and company sustainability efforts as applicable. 

  • Promote a proactive safety culture through consistent leadership, communication, and employee engagement.






Professional Conduct & Team Support



  • Represent the company professionally during customer meetings, safety audits, and regulatory inspections.

  • Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and sound judgment in all interactions.

  • Stay current on OSHA regulations, industry best practices, and emerging safety trends through continuing education and professional development.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.






Job Qualifications / Requirements


 


Education & Experience 



  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Construction Management, or Relevant Field Experience. 

  • Minimum 2–5 years of experience in construction, field operations, or safety-related roles.

  • Experience leading job site inspections, safety audits and incident investigations.

  • Experience delivering employee safety training and mentoring supervisors or field personnel preferred. 






Required Certifications 



  • ADEN QCI Certification

  • OSHA 30 Hour Construction Certification

  • First Aid/CRP Certification

  • Hazwoper 40 Certification

  • Traffic Control Training 

  • Trenching and Excavation Training 

  • Confined Space and Competent Person Training

  • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Training

  • Reasonable Suspicion Training 

  • Valid Driver’s License. 

  • Ability to obtain and maintain an Arsenal, FBI and NASA Badge when required by project or customer.

  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and comply with the company's drug and alcohol policy.

  • Must maintain all required certifications and complete continuing education or recertification training as required.

  • Ability to travel frequently between multiple project sites. 






Knowledge & Skills 



  • Thorough knowledge of OSHA construction standards, safety regulations, and industry best practices.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to deliver effective training and presentations.

  • Strong organizational, documentation, and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Ability to identify workplace hazards, conduct risk assessments, and implement effective corrective actions.

  • Experience conducting root cause analysis and developing corrective and preventive action plans.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the ability to learn and utilize company software and safety management systems.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with operations and executive leadership.


















Physical Requirements



  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and dust.

  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, crouch, kneel, climb, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
