Job Summary/Description:
FOX 12 Oregon, the #1 local news station in the Portland market, is hiring an Executive Reporter to help guide coverage for our award-winning newscasts, mentor and grow storytellers in our newsroom, and provide dynamic leadership to our reporting team.
The Executive Reporter will lead by example, managing reporters with hands-on guidance about researching, interviewing, writing, and executing all aspects of their jobs, while working with the News Management Team to set and fulfill goals for the whole newsroom.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Taking a leadership role in determining content and coverage plans for the newsroom... from developing story ideas in the editorial meetings through execution in the field and in the newscasts
- Working with reporters and field crews daily on content development strategies, storytelling techniques, and ideas for active live shots
- Leading coverage on major stories by gathering, writing, and delivering content on air
- Fostering a team environment and maintaining a positive, inclusive culture in the newsroom
- The ideal candidate will have strong organizational and administrative skills, flexibility to work multiple schedules depending on the demands of each unique news day, and a passion for coaching and growing journalists.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism or related field preferred, or equivalent training and/or experience.
- At least 5 years of experience as a General Assignment Reporter.
- Newsroom leadership experience preferred.
- Strong editorial, writing, and storytelling skills and working knowledge of newsroom systems, like ENPS
- This position requires the employee to be able to drive for business needs. A valid driver's license and clean driving record (MVR) are required.
