Position Summary

The CNC Shift Supervisor / Operator III is a hands-on working supervisor responsible for both shift execution and advanced CNC support. This position will lead operators, establish shift priorities, monitor production performance, perform setups and changeovers, troubleshoot machining issues, and run production equipment when needed.

This role is ideal for an experienced CNC operator or setup technician who is ready to take greater ownership of people, equipment, and production results.

Primary Responsibilities

Shift Leadership and Production Execution

  • Set clear production priorities and assignments at the beginning of each shift
  • Actively manage the production floor to keep machines running and work progressing
  • Monitor output, uptime, downtime, changeovers, scrap, and labor efficiency
  • Address idle equipment, production delays, and performance issues in real time
  • Ensure operators understand their assignments, targets, and quality requirements
  • Provide clear shift handoffs covering production status, open issues, and required follow-up
  • Report production results, variances, and corrective actions to management

CNC Operation and Production Support

  • Operate 2-, 3-, and 5 axis CNC equipment
  • Run production parts when not performing setups, troubleshooting, or supervisory duties
  • Support operators with tooling, offsets, inspection methods, and machine operation
  • Verify that machines, material, tooling, and documentation are ready for production
  • Assist operators in resolving alarms, tooling problems, quality concerns, and process interruptions

Setups and Changeovers

  • Perform accurate and repeatable CNC setups and changeovers
  • Set and verify tooling, fixtures, soft jaws, work offsets, and programs
  • Complete first-piece inspections and confirm production readiness before releasing jobs
  • Cut, modify, organize, and maintain soft jaws, fixtures, and tooling assemblies
  • Reduce setup and changeover time through preparation and standardized methods

Quality and Troubleshooting

  • Read blueprints and perform inspections using precision measurement equipment
  • Ensure required quality checks and production documentation are completed correctly
  • Troubleshoot tooling, programming, workholding, dimensional, and process-related problems
  • Identify the causes of scrap, downtime, and inconsistent production
  • Escalate quality, safety, maintenance, and programming issues appropriately
  • Work with production, quality, maintenance, and management to resolve problems quickly

Team Development and Standards

  • Train and coach operators on machine operation, inspection, setup support, and shop standards
  • Provide direct, professional feedback when expectations are not being met
  • Reinforce accountability for attendance, productivity, quality, cleanliness, and assigned tasks
  • Maintain a disciplined, respectful, and team-oriented work environment
  • Enforce company safety procedures and operating standards
  • Maintain clean and organized machines, tooling, fixtures, and production areas

Required Qualifications

  • CNC machining experience in a production manufacturing environment
  • Experience performing CNC setups and changeovers
  • Strong understanding of tooling, workholding, work offsets, and program verification
  • Ability to read blueprints and use calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other inspection equipment
  • Ability to troubleshoot tooling, dimensional, programming, and machine-related issues
  • Previous lead, supervisory, or team-training experience
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of machining processes
  • Ability to communicate expectations clearly and address performance issues professionally
  • Reliable attendance and willingness to take ownership of shift results
  • Ability to work independently and make sound production decisions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Okuma Multus experience
  • Okuma mill or lathe experience
  • P200, P300, or P500 control experience
  • Multi-axis CNC machining experience
  • Robotics or manufacturing automation experience
  • Experience cutting soft jaws and maintaining fixtures
  • Experience improving setup time, cycle time, or machine utilization

Schedule

  • Full-time position
  • Night shift: Monday through Thursday
  • Four 10-hour shifts
  • Standard hours: 5:00 p.m.–3:00 a.m.
  • Night-shift differential
  • Overtime available as production needs require
  • Some schedule flexibility may be required to support training, coverage, or production demands

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $24.00 - $32.00 per hour
