What are the responsibilities and job description for the CNC Operator II - Night Shift position at Gravity Manufacturing?
About Gravity Manufacturing
Gravity Manufacturing is a growing manufacturer in Pittsburg, Missouri, serving the energy industry and preparing for future aerospace work. We continue to invest in our employees, advanced CNC equipment, robotics, and practical process improvements. We value people who take ownership of quality, keep learning, and care for the equipment and team around them.
Position Summary
Gravity Manufacturing is hiring a CNC Operator II who can run production reliably, recognize developing tool and quality problems, and handle qualified tooling changes and routine troubleshooting. This role is for an operator ready for greater technical responsibility and continued development toward full CNC setups.
You will work under a Shift Supervisor, operate more technically demanding jobs, and support stable production through accurate measurement, controlled adjustments, and strong machine-care habits.
Primary Responsibilities
- Operate assigned CNC machines and monitor established automated cells. Keep up with loading, inspection, and production requirements, and communicate workload problems early.
- Install approved jaws, replace tools and inserts, touch off tools, and enter tool geometry using the established procedure and your verified qualifications.
- Make authorized wear-offset corrections within approved limits, verify the resulting part, and recognize when repeated or unusual corrections require deeper troubleshooting.
- Monitor tool condition, replace worn tooling before it causes larger problems, and reset tool-life counters after the required replacement and verification.
- Measure technical features using appropriate instruments, including micrometers, thread wires, and indicators. Clean, zero, and check measuring tools using approved methods.
- Resolve familiar machine errors independently when qualified. Escalate recurring faults, crashes, quality concerns, and problems outside your scope.
- Prepare approved robot-table layouts without changing fixtures and operate established cells within your training. Train on 2-axis CNC setups under qualified supervision.
- Complete required inspections after tool changes, offset adjustments, lot changes, and unusual conditions. Maintain accurate MRP records, lot traceability, machine care, and shift handoffs.
Required Qualifications
- Proven CNC production experience and the ability to maintain quality and machine attention across an assigned workload.
- Experience replacing tools, touching off tools, and making controlled offset adjustments.
- Ability to read prints and use precision measuring equipment, including thread wires and indicators for applicable work.
- Sound judgment about when a routine correction is appropriate and when a problem requires technical support.
- Accurate documentation, dependable attendance, and consistent safety and cleanliness habits.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Okuma or FANUC controls, automated production cells, or tool-life monitoring.
- Experience supporting jaw installation, changeovers, or supervised lathe setups.
Schedule
- Night shift: Monday through Thursday, 5:00 p.m.-3:00 a.m. Shift differential bonus
- Four 10-hour shifts; full-time, in-person work in Pittsburg, Missouri.
- Overtime may be available based on production needs and management approval.
