CLASS TITLE:  COMPUTER LAB TECHNICIAN

 

BASIC FUNCTION:  

 

Organize and operate a computer laboratory for training and practical use; schedule lab use and assist faculty and staff with equipment operation and applications software; provide lab support and informal and formal training to lab users and other school computer users; adjust and maintain microcomputer equipment.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

 

  1. Organize and operate a computer laboratory for training and practical use; schedule lab use and assist faculty and staff with equipment operation and applications software.
  2. Maintain in-service records and other data bases required for computer projects.
  3. Provide lab support and informal and formal training to lab users and other school computer users; assist with the creation and production of training materials.
  4. Adjust and maintain computer equipment; identify equipment malfunction to assure proper maintenance and repair; troubleshoot for hardware and software problems.
  5. Provide user support in the lab and on the telephone to computer system users at District school sites.
  6. Maintain a hardware inventory and maintenance records for lab equipment.
  7. Provide for lab security.
  8. Maintain a clean and orderly laboratory environment.
  9. Perform related duties as assigned.
  10. Adheres to the Professional Code of Ethics.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

 

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  1. Computer operations and related information processing.
  2. Use of computer utility software.
  3. Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary. 
  4. Various word processing spreadsheet and data base applications.
  5. Operating procedures and practices appropriate to an instructional computer laboratory.
  6. Modern office practices, procedures and equipment. 
  7. Policies and objectives of assigned program and activities. 
  8. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. 
  9. Oral and written communication skills. 

 

ABILITY TO:

  1. Organize and operate a computer laboratory for training and practical use.
  2. Schedule lab use and assist faculty and staff with equipment operation and applications software.
  3. Provide lab support and informal and formal training to lab users and other school microcomputer users.
  4. Operate, adjust and maintain computers and peripheral equipment.
  5. Assist staff and faculty in the use of information processing equipment and familiarize users with applications software and utility programs.
  6. Organize and oversee computer laboratory operations.
  7. Maintain current knowledge of technological advances in the field. 
  8. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. 
  9. Operate a computer terminal to enter data, maintain records and generate reports. 
  10. Maintain records and prepare reports. 
  11. Maintain current knowledge of technological advances in the field. 
  12. Communicate data processing procedures and requirements to users. 
  13. Provide technical assistance to District computer systems users. 

 

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

Any combination equivalent to: high school diploma, G.E.D. Certificate or demonstrated progress toward obtaining a G.E.D. as required by Kentucky law including or supplemented by college-level course work in computer-related technologies and three years experience in the operation and maintenance of microcomputers and peripheral equipment.

 

Salary : $12 - $18
