Position Summary: The MCT Clinician (On-site and Hybrid options) works assigned shifts on the Mobile Crisis Team providing assessment and crisis intervention services to persons in the community who are experiencing a psychiatric or behavioral emergency and to significant others at the scene. The mobile crisis staff responds to all calls from members of the community and from the police. Persons in crisis needing MCT services may be in the community or seen at Grassroots. Experience in crisis intervention, mental health, and counseling required. Ability to work in fast paced environment and complete thorough assessments and crisis intervention in the community. Must have excellent communication skills.

*** WORK FROM HOME POSITIONS / NOT REQUIRED TO REPORT TO THE OFFICE ONLY IF YOU'RE LOCATED IN HOWARD Co. - MUST BE IN RANGE OF POLICE RADIO AND QUICK RESPONSE TIME ***

Regular Part-time shifts needed as follows:

$40/hour for Hybrid Positions

$ 42/ hour for On-Site Positions

  • 1st/3rd/5th Saturdays and Sundays 12:00am - 8:00am
  • Every Sunday 4:00pm-12:00am
  • 1st/3rd/5th Wednesdays 5:00pm - 12:00am
  • 1st/3rd/5th Fridays 5:00pm - 12:00am
  • 1st/3rd/5th Saturday 8:00am - 4:00pm

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Works assigned shift and arrive to work 5-10 minutes prior to shift starting.
  • Triages request and responds to a variety of sources up to 40 hours a week as scheduled.
  • Completes a thorough assessment in partnership with other MCT member, police and collateral others for each new client to determine their needs and the best intervention possible.
  • Demonstrates ability to work with individuals (adults and adolescents), as well as couples and families.
  • MCT provides follow-up services to identified clients as well as family and or friends of identified client.
  • Completes iCarol reports for all calls at the end of each call. All calls are documented before the end of shift.
  • Provides crisis intervention counseling using a variety of interventions including: Emergency Petition, voluntary hospitalization, conflict mediation, access to resources, etc.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Assist MCT Program Manager, and Director of Crisis Services with projects or other tasks, as requested.
  • Participates in program evaluation by sending surveys to recipients of service as per protocol.
  • Represent Grassroots at health fairs and other community events, as requested.
  • Uses counseling skills, empathetic listening and warmth to establish rapport with all callers and clients.
  • Counselor uses the crisis intervention model with all clients as is appropriate.
  • Communicates with peers on shift all necessary information relating to operations and client updates.
  • Actively participates in the various formats of Crisis Team and MCT “meetings” (videos to watch, emails to read, webinars, and or face to face meetings) to ensure that up to date information is being communicated to clients.
  • Positively contributes to the morale of peers and proactively problem solves client cases as well as systemic concerns, offering suggestions for addressing concerns.
  • Provides training and orientation to new staff as requested in a helpful and thorough manner.
  • Keeps workplace including MCT vehicle clean and orderly.

Agency-wide Responsibilities:

  • Participate in supervision, in-service training and staff meetings.
  • Maintain good working relationship with co-workers and contribute positively to group morale.
  • Complete all administrative duties including time sheets, leave requests etc.
  • Participate in special committees or special projects as needed.
  • Use appropriate channels of communication to resolve conflicts with other staff.
  • Interact with staff, clients and visitors in professional and courteous manner.

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in social work or other mental health related field, with professional licensure required (LCSW-C, LCPC).
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited school with a minimum of 120 college credits, master's degree from accredited school with a minimum of 30 graduate school credits required. Transcript or copy of degree(s) required.
  • Two years of relevant experience in mental health service with at least 2 years in crisis intervention services, suicide prevention and intervention.
  • Possession of valid Maryland driver’s license required.
  • Knowledge of homelessness issues a plus.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Presentation/training skills including small and large group presentations and trainings.
  • Ability to function successfully in an environment requiring immediate response to urgent situations.
  • Spontaneous supervision of staff in real time.
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with local and statewide community resources.
  • Knowledge of the following areas is very desirable: Crisis intervention theory, assessment skills and intervention strategies. Broad knowledge of mental illnesses. Basic knowledge of wide range of issues such as suicide, substance abuse, victimization, domestic violence, family dynamics, child abuse/neglect, and community resources.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Computer skills with various software and the internet.

Work Conditions:

  • Works some holiday shifts during the year.
  • Shared office space with 1 MCT Clinician.
  • Occasionally required to come in outside of regular business hours for coverage needs.
  • Must be comfortable driving various conditions (i.e., rain, night) – no transportation of clients is necessary.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $40.00 - $42.00 per hour

Expected hours: 8 – 24 per week

Education:

  • Master's (Required)

  • Crisis management: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Suicide Prevention: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Mental health counseling: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Social work: 1 year (Preferred)

License/Certification:

  • LCSW-C (Preferred)
  • LCPC (Preferred)

Ability to Commute:

  • Columbia, MD (Required)
